Hi, that is not right. All most all auto manufacturers world over summer test their new models in UAE/Oman. Most of the cars being tested would be in chameleon mode and that is why you don't spot them as test cars unless you get to see them close up.

Currently I am aware of BMWs Dodge and Bentlys on test around here from western stables, in addition to a some 4x4s from the more famous Japanes stables.

Another summer test that happens here is - Aircrafts and aircraft systems. That is centred around Al Ain airport - both Airbus and Boeying have testing programmes here almost all summers. Now 787 systems are on test in the region

Your brother & Dad have some good semi-muscel cars.

Best Regards & Drive/Ride Safe

I don't really know, but in Dubai there's typically a new model every year with a minor facelift over the old one (at least by the major manufacturers). Toward the end of every year, there are advertisements for the next year's model. It's just a feeling that people have that they are driving something current and not something that was introduced two years ago.

BTW, the Volkswagen Beetle was discontinued in Dubai about two years ago. I guess the design just seemed too old for people to continue buying it.

Toyota changes the names of some of the vehicles it introduces in Dubai. The Scion is known as the Zelas. In a place with car-crazy locals, I don't really know why they didn't sell the Toyota Celica in Dubai, but they have introduced the Toyota 86 last year. If "86" has anything to do with the year of birth of the age group that they are targeting, I may be too old for the car

BTW, I sometimes wonder how cars like the Geely can make it to Dubai to target a niche, but they haven't considered selling in the Indian market where there's probably a huge demand for cheap sedans (assuming they can source a diesel engine for it).

Mercedes Benz uses Daimler office in Jebel Ali as the base for the hot weather testing in Dubai. They used to take the Hatta and Al Ain roads for testing the cars. They normally use the training facilty at the facilty as their hub.

Got to sit in and see the SLS before it was even launched . The car was stripped off the camouflage in front of us to be taken to the Sheikh's palace. They even let us start the car and enjoy the V8 rumble.

I have also seen some Nissan cars before the launch inside Jebel Ali as they have a local office in JAFZA.

Yep. I've seen a CLS being tested in Jebel Ali. Around 2010.

Nice!! but 459 kph?? , is it a typo because even Bugatti Veyron SS have a top speed of around 420 kph

459 km/h? Really?

I highly doubt that Wasif. Even a 'souped-up' Ford GT wouldn't be able to exceed 400 realistically speaking.

The car maxes out at a little over 200 miles per hour, if I'm not mistaken.

Great catch though! It looks phenomenal! That F430 looks pedestrian in comparison! *thumbs up*

Re: Cars spotted in Dubai

Among the no-so-common non-supercars that I spotted in Dubai was the Soren on the Sheikh Zayed road. It is built by an Iranian manufacturer and has the plain-Jane looks of a Ford. I can't take pictures while driving like many others on the forum can, so no pics to upload :-(

Re: Cars spotted in Dubai

Definitely not 459 kmph. As stated earlier, the Bugatti also managed 420 and not without a fair amount of effort. Was going through google on the same and it seems to be a much talked about point and the numbers all are in the range of 212-240 MPH

But as per an article, the Hennessey Ford GT40 became the fastest car at Texas Mile to clock a top speed of 257.7 mph. This was in Mar 2012

See, that's where most of our hard-earned 80 odd bucks worth of petrol are put to use. In some other way or other, I'm sure.

BTW the Rollers on steroids looks a bit amusing, but also reminds me of something quite relevant, albeit a bit more pragmatic and interesting.

Here's a Silver Shadow that had participated in the 1970 Daily Mirror World Cup Rally.

And here's the 1981 Paris-Dakar raider, the rather fashionably named Jules, because the main sponsorship of the specific team reeked of Perfums Christian Dior, and later to be used by them as a marketing tool for their fragrance roll-out called the same. !
