The VW Scirocco

Quote:
As we say in the biz, you can't put the toothpaste back in the tube, so you might as well squeeze out what's left. After two official images of the yet-to-debut 2009 Volkswagen Scirocco hit the web the other day, a couple of sites have decided just to publish the whole lot of pre-release images. There are seven in total now (VW will likely release dozens more after the car debuts in Geneva next week), including a pair of interior pics that show, surprise, surprise, a cockpit that appears remarkably similar to the one in the Golf and Jetta. Despite that, the deeply bolstered tan leather seats are stitched with a nifty retro pattern that makes us want to crank the cassette player to 11. There's more info about the 2009 Volkswagen Scirocco that we'd like to tell you, but it's embargoed until Monday. It's highly unlikely, however, that this tube of toothpaste won't be squeezed dry by then.

Sweet! This should be a fun car to drive. Nice wheels too!
I bet it'll surpass the Golf GTi in all standards..

This car is bulkier than the Golf. I hope they come up with an AWD 3.2litre just like the VW R32 it'll do more justice to the weight and bulk of this car than a mere FWD.

Any scoop on if / when the VW Scirocco is being launched in India??

Does VW India have any plans of launching the stunning Scirocco in India? At least the 1.4. I believe it would serve as a good second car for people who have a taste for radical design. Anything in the 8-10L would be good considering the super delicious body and fire-breathing performance figures.
Even though it looks stunning in the pics, I would still say the pics dont do it justice

I'm pretty sure VW have absolutely NO intention of bringing the Scirocco here.

1) They're here to do numbers. Key focus for now would be getting the Polo to stay on the charts with the New Swift around, making sure Vento keeps wooing City/Verna customers, making sure the New Jetta hits the sweet spot and hoping the Passat gets some of the Superb's glory.

2) I think VW's growth strategy in India, would rely on getting their budget car UP right. With a slew of new launches in the supermini segment (read: Hyundai's H800, Maruti's new small car, Honda brio etc) VW could be a real game changer with an affordable German small car!

3) While bringing the Scirocco here as a CBU/CKD could be a good brand building exercise, the Scirocco is an expensive car with price tag of ~ 23000 Euros (~15L) for the base versions! Bringing (CBU) a moderately equipped version over here and then the additional import duties and we're looking at a ~30L price tag! Not sure how much it would succeed at that price point even as a premium, brand building car.

4) Realistically we could hope for a Polo GTI (or at least a version on those lines) with kitted out interiors (Sunroof, Navi etc.) a sweet motor (1.4 TSI?) sportier handling and ride for about 12L! Oh and those beautiful European-spec headlights!

That said the Scirocco is a beautiful machine and I'd love to see them on the roads

Cheers!

Well, its a fashionable looking Golf. They don't have any plans for the Golf itself (unless the market warms up to big hatchbacks), and hence I feel the Scirocco is a distant possibility

Probably Not, for a long long time. We'd our shot at a stunning looking car with the SRV (chevy's), at 8-10L. That's as close as we'll get, for now. And yes, the Scirocco looks quite awesome, in fact the present Polos etc have a similar front face, nothing striking but something to tell they're all blood related.

30L is not that crazy except the fact that the Indian consumer has a mindset against expensive hatches ( chhoti gaadi line of thought )
Come on, didn't the grand old company give us a 50L Evo, which btw is a pain to drive in the city.

It's more than just a fancy Golf VB. I know they share the headlights but just look at that fine rear
