Maruti Suzuki Dzire mild hybrid SHVS launched in the Philippines; gets a tiny 0.072 kWh battery

Suzuki has launched the new Dzire in the Philippines. The compact sedan is offered with a hybrid powertrain paired with a CVT, unlike in India.

The Philippines-spec Suzuki Dzire is powered by the new Z12E 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder engine. It is paired with a 12V hybrid system, featuring a 0.072 kWh battery pack that powers a 2.93 BHP electric motor. The powertrain delivers 80 BHP and 112 Nm and comes paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

The electric motor, albeit tiny, is said to provide a torque boost and improve the overall fuel efficiency. That being said, Suzuki hasn’t disclosed the fuel economy figures for the Dzire Hybrid.

Design-wise, the Suzuki Dzire Hybrid is identical to the model sold in India. The car is equipped with LED headlamps, LED taillights, and 2-tone alloy wheels.

The Philippines-spec Dzire Hybrid has a two-tone interior with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the centre, a 3-spoke steering wheel and a conventional instrument cluster. The car offers features such as cruise control and automatic climate control with rear AC vents but misses out on a sunroof.

The Dzire Hybrid is available in two variants: GL and GLX, with prices starting at PHP 920,000 (approx. Rs 13.9 lakh).

re: Maruti Suzuki Dzire mild hybrid SHVS launched in the Philippines; gets a tiny 0.072 kWh battery

0.072 kWh is 72Wh. For a 12v Lead Acid battery, it is 6Ah, a battery slightly bigger in capacity to the one in a TVS Scooty Zest. A Pulsar 150 battery is 33% bigger. For comparison, the Accessory battery in a DZire is 35 Ah, about 6 times the size of this 'hybrid' battery.

If it was genuinely possible to build a Hybrid with a battery this small, why did they cheat the consumers all these years by launching SHVS versions a decade back and ruin hybrids in the eyes of GOI forever?

Or is this the actual battery of the SHVS system?

Don't see how this is any different to the SHVS system or any system with an ISG (integrated Started Generator) which provides a slight boost for initial acceleration.

Considering that this is a CVT, this system is probably meant to help with the initial acceleration and provide some initial torque that the CVT might lack.

Calling it a Hybrid is definitely a stretch and is probably meant to get some subsidy in Philippines (just like SHVS fiasco in India).

For those who are wondering, this HYBRID is actually the SHVS. As usual, they are back with the shady naming tactics to confuse the customer. They have advertised this as HYBRID - Powered by Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS).

You see what is going on there? Yep, it is the SHVS that is also called as HYBRID

The levels of profit Maruti is able to make from their India based exports is absolutely crazy. This car here will be priced at 7 lakhs. Adding freight charges + any duty I still think they are making 2-3 lakh profit (considering cost of making this car is 5.8 lakhs in india without 29 percent gst duty)

Heheh, what torque?
113nm, from a 3 pot, mated to what's most likely a Torque converter CVT, pretty sure 30% of the engine's torque is going to be wasted by the torque converter itself.
And that is probably why they added that tiny battery, to compensate for that torque loss?

Should see if it works better than the AMT once the fuel efficiency figures show up.

Re: Maruti Suzuki Dzire mild hybrid SHVS launched in the Philippines; gets a tiny 0.072 kWh battery

Apart from being equipped with the CVT, is there any other actual change between the India and Philippines-spec Dzire? Is Idle start/stop and regen braking alone entirely what is considered as part of a 12v mild hybrid tech?

India-spec Dzire has the same tech as in the Philippines as per my understanding of this feature.

If there indeed is a difference, I would like to know the opinion of senior BHPians on its usefulness, both on day-to-day driving and long distance travel.

The below picture is a courtesy of Team-BHP's official review of the latest Dzire.

Re: Maruti Suzuki Dzire mild hybrid SHVS launched in the Philippines; gets a tiny 0.072 kWh battery

The 12V mild hybrid CVT transaxle in the Maruti Suzuki Dzire is more about refining the drive than chasing fuel economy. It enables extended start-stop functionality and helps smooth out the typical delays from the torque converter, which pairs the ICE to the CVT. It also addresses the electronic lag in the CVT’s belt-pulley system when deciding the optimal gear ratio. By assisting during low-speed and stop-go scenarios, the hybrid system reduces the torque converter's workload, resulting in quicker response and a smoother, more connected driving experience.

Re: Maruti Suzuki Dzire mild hybrid SHVS launched in the Philippines; gets a tiny 0.072 kWh battery

It is sad to see that Maruti makes Dzire with CVT in India but does not offer it in the local market. My guess is that a CVT Dzire in India would be substantially pricier than CVT Amaze and Maruti does not want to give the advantage to Honda.

As a satisfied CVT Amaze customer, I appreciate Honda for offering superior technology at a reasonable price which the competition is unable/unwilling to do!
