Smaller G-Class confirmed: Mercedes drops 'little g' teaser

Smaller G-Class confirmed: Mercedes drops 'little g' teaser-screenshot-20250228-10.07.33-am.png

The G-Class is one of the icons of Mercedes-Benz's history and is still going strong to this day. The boxy stance and distinct character are loved by enthusiasts the world over, and it is still a hot seller for the brand. There have also been limited production run variants like the Maybach G650 Landaulet, 4x4 Squared, and 6x6. These have all sold out in a short period.

Mercedes is now working on a smaller and more affordable version of the G-Class. It will be part of the manufacturer’s biggest product launch offensive, which was announced recently. In a new teaser, the g (written in lowercase) appears to be covered up at the bottom of the G-Class pyramid. Mercedes had also shown a design sketch of a ‘little G’ in September 2023 at the IAA Munich show. During the event, CEO Ola Källenius called it the "son or daughter of the iconic Big G."

Mercedes has not revealed much about the little G-Class and it remains to be seen how much it will share with its bigger sibling. It will be interesting to see if it comes with a body-on-frame layout or a monocoque. But there is no doubt that it will excel in off-roading. Size-wise, it could be similar to the Suzuki Jimny and could come in three and five-door versions.

Two years ago, the German business paper Handelsblatt reported that the little G-Class would share mechanical similarities with the next-gen CLA that will
break cover shortly. If this is true, the baby G could get a plug-in hybrid with a 1.5 litre four-cylinder petrol engine. An EV version can also be expected.

Considering how popular the G-Class is in India, especially with G63, this 'little g' will surely be a hit with buyers here.

Other models lined up as part of the three-pointed star’s product offensive include electric versions of the GLC, C-Class and E-Class. The S-Class is also getting a major refresh for 2026.

Re: Smaller G-Class confirmed: Mercedes drops 'little g' teaser

News about a baby G class didn't excite much. Most of the rumours were about an electric version or based on the entry level FWD models. (Yawn) Like how the GLB tried to leech off GLS's image.

But the little 'g' silhoutte shared in the above pic, (assuming it is MB official one) looks cool . Looks like a cute 3 door convertible type. Surely there would be normal 3 door hardtop and a 5 door station wagon variant too. Ever since the 2018 generation change, the G class (not the utilitarian version) has only been offered in a 5 door bodystyle. Looks like this will change it.

We already have the 'little g', just that it's called the jimny.

Re: Smaller G-Class confirmed: Mercedes drops 'little g' teaser

When Ford relaunched the Bronco a few years ago, they also launched the Bronco Sport to capitalize on the Bronco name.

Land Rover renamed Freelander to Discovery Sport several years ago. etc. etc.

There are many such examples.

This is Mercedes's turn now to Capitalize on the brand value of the G.
Chances are that the 'g' will just be a rebodied existing car from their portfolio. Most likely it could be the GLB dressed up with some 'G' design traits. Given the aura of the Brand, the little 'g' will become a Cash cow for Mercedes.
