Tesla’s vehicle registrations in Germany fell 59.5% year over year in January to 1,277 units, following an overall decline across most European markets.

In January, the company held a 0.6% share of Germany’s overall car market, while its share of the fully electric vehicle segment was 16.6%.

In 2024, registrations of new Tesla vehicles in Germany fell 41% to fewer than 38,000 units, according to data from the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA).

In December, during the traditional year-end sales push, Tesla registered 3,905 vehicles—the highest monthly total since June and the third-best month of 2024—as the company ramped up purchase discounts and incentives across all its markets.

U.S. electric vehicle maker Lucid Motors registered 19 units last month, up from two vehicles a year ago. The Chinese giant BYD registered 235 vehicles, up 69% year over year while XPeng and Nio recorded 94 and 18 units, respectively.

Polestar, a brand from the Chinese Geely Holding Group, more than doubled registrations to 235 vehicles.

In other key European markets, Tesla registered 1,141 vehicles in France last month, down 63% from 3,118 in January 2024. In the Netherlands, registrations fell 42% to 927 units.

In the U.S., registrations dropped 10% year over year in January, according to Motor Intelligence estimates released on Tuesday. The company registered 48,500 vehicles, down from the 53,830 recorded a year ago.

California New Car Dealers Association said on Monday that registrations in the state fell 12% from January 2024.

Last week, at the Q4 earnings call, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said he “sees a path” of Tesla being the most valuable company in the world by far.”

Musk added later in the call that the company is “setting up for what I think will be an epic 2026 and a ridiculous ’27 and ’28, ridiculously good.”

Tesla reported full-year net income of $8.4 billion, down 23% from 2023 and 40% from the record $14.1 billion profit in 2022. Full-year revenue rose 1% to $97.7 billion, marking a new record for the tech company.

Tesla may be starting to suffer from their erratic CEO's actions. But, with cheaper options available and general public not being able to afford a 40-60,000 Euro car, it was only a matter of time before we saw this. They also have recurring quality issues and expensive repair jobs, which sicken the common man away from the EVs.

It is not just Germany, Tesla's sales sink in Europe.

- 2025 does not seem to have started much better, as in regions such as Europe sales have sunk dramatically.

-The most significant falls have taken place in key markets such as Germany (-59.5%), France (-63.4%) and Spain (-75.4%), although this effect has occurred to a greater or lesser extent in other countries, such as the United Kingdom (-18.2%), the Netherlands (-42.5%) and Norway (-40.2%)

- The reasons behind this situation could be several. To begin with, it is very likely that the presentation of the new Model Y "Juniper" is largely to blame, as many customers may have chosen to wait for the launch of the updated model before making their purchase; in addition, the output of plants such as Giga Berlin has surely also been affected.

-This is another factor comes into play: the increasingly worse image of Elon Musk, CEO of the manufacturer. The tycoon's latest controversies are directly affecting customers' perception of the brand, as shown by a recent opinion poll conducted by Novus in Sweden: at the end of January, only 11% of those interviewed had a positive opinion of the company, while 63% had a negative view.

Absolutely, this is a major factor. I’ve already noticed that lunchtime conversations are happening among current Tesla lease owners / aspirants in my office. It seems like no one really likes Tesla boss, and many have made it clear that they don’t want to own or would never own one once their leases end.

Tesla's China-made EV sales fall 11.5% y/y in January.

U.S. automaker Tesla's sales of China-made electric vehicles fell 11.5% to 63,238 units in January from a year earlier.

Deliveries of China-made Model 3 and Model Y vehicles were down 32.6% from December.

Chinese rival BYD with its Dynasty and Ocean series of EVs and plug-in hybrids, sold 296,446 passenger vehicles last month, a 47.5% increase on the year, but a 41.8% decline from the prior month.

Xiaomi's electric sedan SU7 outsold the Model 3 in December, and its first SUV is expected to be launched this summer to take on the Model Y.
