Toyota Hilux Rangga SUV to be launched in Indonesia; Based on Innova Crysta platform

Toyota Motors Indonesia unveiled the Hilux Rangga SUV concept a few months back. The SUV is based on the Hilux Rangga pickup.

Now, Toyota has confirmed that the Hilux Rangga SUV will go into production soon, while its sales are expected to begin sometime next year. Although the Hilux Rangga SUV comes with a bodyshell made by an aftermarket coach builder - the final product will be sold officially by Toyota.

The Toyota Hilux Rangga SUV is based on the brand's IMV platform, which also underpins the likes of the Innova Crysta & Fortuner. It comes with a rudimentary design featuring conventional doors at the rear.

Inside, the Rangga SUV will get a three-row-7-seater configuration as standard, with multiple seating options on offer. Other features include air-conditioning, dual-front airbags and a touchscreen infotainment.

The Rangga SUV is mechanically identical to the Rangga pickup. The SUV will be powered by 2.0-litre NA petrol and 2.4-litre turbo diesel engines, both sending power to the rear wheels. The engines will be paired either with a 5-speed manual or automatic gearbox.

Toyota sure knows how to launch some monstrosities! (Or maybe its just me)

One can always dream/wish for styling of Nissan with reliablity/after sales experience of a toyota.(wouldn’t that me a nice combo!)

And here I thought that the Kia Syros looked like a fridge on wheels...
Toyota never disappoints when it comes to utilitarian vehicles with the weirdest of designs.

I will not be surprised if this comes to India as QUALIS!

Good Lord I need an eye cleanser after looking at that.
It would sit perfectly next to the Kia Tasman

It looks like two cars from two different segments stitched together. Like a chimaera.

Like if I took my Brezza's front half and welded it to a Harrier's back half.

Reminded me of FJ Cruiser. Too bad they discontinued it. It was going to be my mid-life crisis purchase.

Did some leading designer from Mahindra join Toyota Indonesia?

The rear looks uglier than the side profile.

ABSOLUTELY !! I think this will be a great opportunity for Toyota to bring back its legadary brand at very reasonable incremental cost - since the platform and its parts supply chain is already well localized at acceptable quality. This could be another winner.

It will also have the advantage of increasing the "average selling price" of its entire portfolio.

Re: Toyota Hilux Rangga SUV to be launched in Indonesia; Based on Innova Crysta platform

Even if a car is designed to be cheap, why does it have to look so...so bad and why so many cuts and creases, a smoother surface would have looked much better, heck they could have wrapped it using the design from any of their older models like Qualis.

Whatever the thinking was behind this design, I hope this is not the IMV0 based SUV that Toyota was talking about bringing to India.

Coming to think of it, we can excuses someone like Mahindra for coming up with such a design as they are relatively in-experienced, but Toyota!!!

It’s so odd looking. Those tiny wheels look like they were taken off an Alto.

Heavily inspired by Heisenberg's Pontiac Aztec this one is!
If this does come to India, what will the Suzuki counterpart look like?
