Consumer Reports: Subaru beats BMW, Lexus & Porsche to become best car brand

Consumer Reports has released its car brand report card, involving 32 car brands. Each automaker is ranked based on their vehicles' overall score, which is the average of the scores of various parameters - road tests, safety rating, predicted reliability and owner satisfaction.

Based on the report, the top five on the list remain unchanged from last year, albeit with one significant change - Subaru takes the top slot. It beats the likes of BMW, Lexus, Porsche & Honda which occupy the top 5 slots, respectively. Lexus has also moved up two slots from 5th to 3rd, compared to last year's list.

Away from the top 5, Audi secured the 6th spot on the list after improving from 12th position last year. Similarly, Infiniti has also moved up 6 spots to claim the 10th position on the list.

MINI has dropped 5 spots and Mazda by 6 spots, to occupy 11th and 14th positions respectively.

There are also seven brands that Consumer Reports doesn't recommend a single model of. These include Lincoln, Alfa Romeo, Dodge, GMC, Land Rover, Rivian & Jeep. Also, CR tests only brands with at least 2 current models - this is why, the list doesn't contain brands like Fiat, Jaguar, Lucid, Maserati, Polestar and Ram.
