Jaguar to become all-electric brand from 2025

JLR has announced a radical shift from combustion engines to electric vehicles as they unveiled their new roadmap today.

Highlights:
  • Jaguar will become an electric-only brand from 2025. Jaguar is developing a new architecture that will be used to underpin every new, EV-only model from 2025 onwards.
  • All JLR models will be available with pure electric versions by end of the decade, with Jaguar becoming an electric-only luxury brand from 2025 onwards.
  • Land Rover will launch six pure electric vehicle variants within the next five years, with the first all-electric Land Rover due in 2024.
  • Platformwise, JLR will have 3 platforms in total. A new pure-BEV platform that will be exclusive to Jaguar, two dedicated to Land Rover which supports both pure-electric and combustion engine vehicles.
  • By the end of the decade the firm is aiming for 100% of Jaguar sales to be fully electric, along with 60% of Land Rover sales.

Official: Jaguar will only offer electric cars from 2025

Quote:
The new boss of Jaguar (and Land Rover) Thierry Bolloré has today announced a big, shiny new plan with a really big, shiny new headline announcement: from 2025, Jaguar will only sell electric cars.

It’s part of a wider plan he’s calling ‘Reimagine’ - a plan that aims to position the company as a net zero carbon business by 2039.

We’re told Jaguar’s transition into an electric-only brand will be underpinned by a new, bespoke platform spanning the entire range – a ‘pure electric architecture’. That’s right – just the one platform delivering a brand new range of electric Jaguars.

Bolloré wouldn’t be drawn on any further detail about this new bespoke electric platform – other than saying he wants ‘the best of the best’ – but did note that he’s letting his designers run “totally free to prepare and propose the most emotionally dramatic designs they can imagine”. Apparently, once the design is in place, they’ll pair it with the platform.

TG asked Bolloré whether this means Jaguar’s future range will be cut. He said: “For Jaguar, probably the portfolio is going to be more compact compared to the one we have today.”

The biggest immediate casualty of which is the upcoming Jaguar XJ replacement, which will not form part of the all-new Jag line-up in 2025. Bolloré noted that the total repositioning of Jaguar meant “the XJ replacement did not fit. That’s why we decided to stop it. It was a tough decision; a lot of people have been working on this project. It’s a significant decision,” he said. The nameplate will remain though, for potential deployment in the future.

Re: Jaguar to become all-electric brand from 2025

It is a brave move. The forthcoming XJ would never be able to scale up and make money. The I-Pace although brilliant has never scaled up.

Their best way is to create a range of models on a similar platform and stem losses. Meanwhile the folks can go and build the replacement Range Rovers en masse and make profits

Re: Jaguar to become all-electric brand from 2025

Electric Jaguar XJ scrapped as part of brand reinvention plan.

Quote:
JLR said: "Following a thorough technology review against the exponential change in the automotive industry, we concluded that the planned XJ replacement does not fit with our vision for a reimaged Jaguar brand.

"We have made the tough decision that it will not form part of the line-up, as the brand looks to realise its unique potential.

The Reimagine strategy does suggest that the XJ name could be retained for use on one of Jaguar's new exclusively electric models.

Re: Jaguar to become all-electric brand from 2025

Jaguar Land Rover boss Thierry Bolloré has confirmed that the firm is aiming to find a partner to help develop a new EV platform that will underpin Jaguar's reinvention as an electric-only luxury brand.

Quote:
With the high cost of developing a new vehicle architecture, it had been expected that JLR would look for a partner, either to buy a platform from or to share the development costs with.
Quote:
He added that the choice of partner would be determined by the design of future Jaguar models, saying that any platform will have to "respect the proportions" of the firm's concepts.
Quote:
Bolloré did say that, if a suitable platform supplier can't be found, the firm is prepared to develop the new platform itself. If that happens, he added, the process will be "design-led". He said: "There's no point doing what we are doing with Jaguar unless these products are drop-dead gorgeous."

How are they planning on going all electric in 4 years if they don’t have a platform in place?

Re: Jaguar to become all-electric brand from 2025

New Jaguar logos unveiled as big concept reveal moves closer.

Jaguar has revealed its new logos and styling details ahead of its transition into a luxury EV brand.

Jaguar’s transformation to a high-end luxury brand has started to take shape, with the company revealing its new logos and styling details.

The artwork for the relaunched brand comes ahead of a new concept car that will show Jaguar’s new design direction as it moves to a line-up of three £100,000+ electric cars. The prototype, to be shown at Miami Art Week on 2 December, will feature Jaguar’s new signature, ‘leaper’ and a new “strikethrough” design element, set to be seen across Jaguar's new models, as well as a new colour palette.

“These four symbols of change are elements that will be universally recognised codes of Jaguar going forward.

The device mark is Jaguar’s signature, and the company has developed its own in-house font to update the lettering. According to the company, the capped G in the middle of the word "creates symmetry and perfect balance”, while the classic Jaguar ‘leaper’ - described as “our precious mark of provenance” has been revised and embedded into a new Jaguar detail of 16 horizontal lines, a so-called strikethrough that is likely to be carried over into its cars as a design feature.

Jaguar has also developed what it calls its monogram. Consisting of the first and last letters of its name, the flourish could be deployed in places such as the centre of alloy wheels, or by high-end branding partners, which Jaguar is looking to attract as it moves its pricing and aspirations up a level.

“If we want to move into a space beyond automotive with modern luxury, we can’t play at it, there is a real aspiration to move into a totally different space,” said Stevens. Jaguar wouldn’t be drawn on collaborations, but will be looking at prestige arrangements to drive home the message that it has moved upmarket.

Jaguar's new makeover

As we know, Jaguar ended the production of its existing models and is in hiatus model. However, the brand which is owned by India's Tata has just unveiled its new brand identity as a part of its rebranding.

> They released a new video on their x handle with a caption "copy nothing" : https://x.com/Jaguar/status/18588008...dK8ztvmzQ&s=19

This recieved negative replies mostly as people found it "woke" and out of touch with the core customer base of Jaguar. All the previous posts made by the official handle are deleted. Are they suggesting that they would axe themselves from their past ? 😔

I'm perplexed with their strategy. Not sure if they would take off.

Re: Jaguar's new makeover

The video looks like some LGBTQ awareness video. That said, the "Jaguar" logo in those letters in that monotone wood color looks pretty good. But curious to see what products they come up with.

Re: Jaguar's new makeover

I think they need to create new models in just couple of segments. Like a convertible and maybe one luxury barge kind of vehicle. They are facing a identity crisis and are not able to give anything special among the existing premium car makers.

Why not get inspired by some of their older models which had pleasing design like the E-type?

This whole saga must be inspired from the Ringarde episode of Emily in Paris. Sigh.

By the looks of it, the Device mark is the written part. The Artist part is the J r monogram replacing the old roaring jaguar in the front grille. The Signature mark must be the leaping jaguar outline.

Guess the marketing agency forgot that the first product Jaguar is going to launch is a big GT. Not a city hatchback. The loud colours you wouldn't even find in a Mini advertisement.

Same thought. Reminds me of the bathroom fittings, though it is the least radical. The J r monogram replacing the front badge is just awful. It looks like the some artistic bakery/cafe/bookstore logo. And the leaping jaguar feels pathetic. Instead of the old muscular lithe leaping Jaguar we got what looks like a Puma logo.

OT: Mr. Glennn Quagmire's face makes me chuckle everytime I see it @ Sunnyboi.
