Mclaren W1 hypercar globally unveiled; 1,258 BHP successor to the McLaren P1

McLaren has unveiled its latest hybrid hypercar, the W1. The McLaren W1 is the third hypercar from the British supercar marque, following the iconic F1 in 1992 and the P1 in 2012.

McLaren claims that the new W1 is its most powerful car to date. The hypercar comes powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, paired with a hybrid setup. The powertrain produces a massive 1,258 BHP and 1,340 Nm, allowing the W1 to sprint from 0-60 mph (0-98 km/h) in 2.7 seconds. The hypercar has an electronically-limited top speed of 217 mph (349 km/h) - identical to its predecessor.

The engine alone produces 916 BHP, which is paired with a 1.4 kWh battery pack and a radial flux electric motor, which puts out an additional 342 BHP. The whole electric module on the W1 weighs just 20 kg, bringing the dry weight of the hypercar to just 1,399 kg - a meagre 4 kg heavier than the McLaren P1. All the power from the powertrain is sent to the rear wheels via an electronic differential. The powertrain comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with an electronic reverse gear.

Coming to the design, the new W1 features all the typical McLaren curves and aero elements. This includes the massive air intakes up front, sleek LED headlamps, F1-inspired barge boards and large intakes on the sides, a central exhaust, and an enormous diffuser at the rear. The McLaren W1 also comes with anhedral doors and an "Active Long Tail" rear wing. The hypercar runs on Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tyres as standard.

Inside, the W1 features a fixed seat with adjustable pedal and steering wheel positions. The cabin of the W1 also comes with an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity features and a smart shelf behind the seats; among plenty of others.

The McLaren W1 will be limited to just 399 units, each having a retail price starting at $2.1 million.

The performance #s keep getting more and more bonkers. Wonder where is the ceiling? Can tyres handle all the crazy output?

I never thought I'd say this but the P1 looks a tad better (same analogy with F1 >> P1). The W1 does look impressive though.- side profile heavily inspired by the Senna.

Awaiting the response from Porsche and Ferrari now. The Ferrari test mules (codename F250) have been spotted but haven't seen Porsche's yet.

What a beauty, though the design is not revolutionary but it's essential to a hypercar. The power figures are equally impressive.

Am i the only one who feels that especially in the orange shade, this car has a passing resemblance to the KTM X Bow GT XR from some angles.
