Stellantis begins searching for a new CEO to succeed Carlos Tavares

According to media reports, Stellantis is said to have started searching for a new candidate to fill its CEO role.

The candidate will succeed the current CEO, Carlos Tavares, whose contract will expire in 2026. Having said that, the carmaker did state that there is a possibility that Tavares could even stay in the position for longer.

As per reports, the current CEO has been under pressure due to the brand's struggling North American operations, whose shares and profits seem to be tumbling.

Tavares was appointed CEO in 2021, having been part of several automakers prior, including Renault, Nissan, and PSA.

Re: Stellantis begins searching for a new CEO to succeed Carlos Tavares

Tavares turnaround of the PSA group was excellent. He made the group brands into distinct entities, Peugeot got it's mojo back making great cars again, Citroen continued to have a quirky streak and DS became a veritable premium-ish brand in its own right.

I can't remember the details of whether Carlos was one of the drivers with the deal to subsume the FCA group but either way, FCA group was a sick patient that was kept up by profits from just a few SUV and pickup heavy divisions. Marchionne spent the last few years of his life pretty much grumbling about it all the time, knowing he'd bitten off more than he could chew by getting the US Govt to sell him the Chrysler group operations on the cheap. I distinctly remember his last few years being dominated by Sergio wooing anyone who'd get into bed with him and merge the FCA group with.

I find it strange to think that shareholders are only now worrying that the chickens have come home to roost in the NA market when the signs were there all along. Find Carlos one of the competent industry execs.

Re: Stellantis begins searching for a new CEO to succeed Carlos Tavares

Tavares and Stellantis are the worst things to have happened to the hallowed North American brands of Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and RAM in all of their existence. Things were rosy and brand legacies were protected under FCA, in comparison.

Today, Stellantis's North American products are over priced with little usable incentives being provided compared to their North American competitors of Ford and GM, and their new product engineering has little that the North American buyer looks for in trucks, muscle cars, affordable off-roadability or affordable American horsepower. There is wide-spread analysis that their European (French) command center that is making decisions for North America have very little understanding of the North American market.

As a result, their market share in North America has slid 2% over the past 2 years - a 1% slide in market share itself is considered alarming. Dealers are incensed that they are unable to sell competitively and that the brands/products don't have the same legacy that captivated customers up until a couple years ago.

The CEO and employee churn that is ongoing is as a result of the combination of the above.

Re: Stellantis begins searching for a new CEO to succeed Carlos Tavares

Stellantis confirms that Tavares is leaving in 2026.

The group plans to announce Tavares' successor by the fourth quarter of 2025.

As part of the restructuring, Stellantis announced that Jean-Philippe Imparato will be appointed Chief Operating Officer for Europe, in addition to his role as CEO of the Pro One light commercial vehicle division. Imparato will replace Uwe Hochgeschurtz.

Santo Ficili will lead Alfa Romeo and Maserati. Ficili was previously national director of Italy. He will replace Imparato as CEO of Alfa Romeo and Davide Grasso as CEO of Maserati. Stellantis has not announced Grasso's next job.

The company also named Doug Ostermann, former chief operating officer of its China division, as its chief financial officer, replacing Natalie Knight, who is leaving the company.

Antonio Filosa is the new chief operating officer of North America, in addition to his role as CEO of the Jeep brand, succeeding Carlos Zarlenga, whose future role has not been announced.
