2025 Nissan Patrol revealed | Landcruiser rival gets refreshed inside out

The Nissan Patrol has been given a modern, hi-tech makeover, but remains the Japanese brand’s most rugged and capable off-roader.

New model ditches the V8 engine of the out-going model. Instead it’s now powered by a new 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine, making 317kW of power and 700Nm of torque and paired to a new nine-speed automatic transmission. There’s also a second engine option, a naturally aspirated 3.8-litre V6 that makes 235kW and 386Nm.

Looks nice, though they have tamed the aggressive look. I guess big numbers will come from Middle East.

Somehow they have made it chintzy looking. Also going by the last Y62 facelift exclusively for the GCC market and the various bodykits offered there, this might be done up to attract the buyers there.

Have to wait for the lower variants or the Australian version to see if they manage to make it good looking. The USDM Armada Pro-4X variant does show that they have an off-road version ready. Goes the downsizing route like its arch rival, the Landcruiser, it has a 3.8l NA V6 which will undoubtedly make up for bulk of the sales in the GCC market. Again, like the previous gen it misses a diesel option which its arch rival offers.

Love the wide central console, but why oh why did they give buttons for the gear selector?

Looks lovely, but from the side, it look like a QX80.

Love this new Patrol! The outgoing model was very "meh", so its nice to see the magic coming back. Nissan builds quirky cars from time to time, but the Nissan Patrol has had some truly great-looking generations.

Re: 2025 Nissan Patrol revealed | Landcruiser rival gets refreshed inside out

Nissan unveiled the seventh generation of the Patrol in the Middle East, coinciding with the debut of the Armada in North America

Nissan Armada is available in a rugged PRO-4X trim, with a slightly redesigned bodykit and all of the available off-road goodies which the Patrol doesn't comes in.

The most important difference between the SUV twins is the available powertrains. The 2025 Nissan Armada is exclusively available with a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine producing 425 hp (317 kW / 431 PS) and 516 lb-ft (699 Nm) of torque, slightly detuned compared to the closely-related Infiniti QX80.

Nissan is coming up with really good looking cars. Here is new KICKS and ARMADA.

The new design language looks very BOLD

Nah, They will bring the most hi-tech engine and topmost variant for sure, but price. Yeah. Price will definitely be 2 crores +.

The Y60 Patrol, like the 80 series Landcruiser looks the part of the quintessential SUV look.

But for me, this is the one I lust for... The Y61 3 door hardtop. In white. A personal chariot.

Based on what I’ve heard, the downsizing exercise hasn’t gone quite as well for Toyota, the 3.5 turbo is nowhere near as reliable as the V8s of the previous gen. The Patrol was never as reliable as the LC anyway, so probably wouldn’t matter.

People in the GCC are not happy with no V8s in the LC. A Batrol without a V8 will make people shudder.

Re: 2025 Nissan Patrol revealed | Landcruiser rival gets refreshed inside out

The new Nissan Patrol will arrive in Australia only by 2026, with a starting price of A$96000 (~INR 52L). Fuel economy claimed is 10.3L/100 km. Outgoing model FE is 14.5L/100km.

On a personal note, I'm not a fan of gas guzzling SUVs. Nissan should atleast have introduced a hybrid option. Newer car buyers are all in for hybrids.

Where has the simplicity in design gone!?

My favourite version of the Nissan Patrol. Raw, rugged and the ground clearance to swallow a whale!

Is it just me or does it look inspired by the Cadillac Escalade ?

Both the 3.5l twin turbo V6 and 2.4l turbo four are having issues, guess it will be fully ironed out only when the next gen Hilux is launched. Yep, the Y62 patrol was more of a poser mobile than dune basher, reason why the Y61 continued to be on sale simultaneously for almost the whole of Y62's production run. Toyota and Nissan knows that, thats why they have also launched the tried and trusted 4.0l V6 and 3.8l V6 NA engines in the LC and Patrol respectively, not just for cheaper entry point.

Offtopic, Toyota could have developed an inline-6 petrol and diesels for the bigger vehicles. Initially thought they developed the V6s so that it could fit it in the smaller vehicles. But going by their recent launches, they have reserved the turbo V6 exclusively for the largest models and top end models. So there isn't any question of packaging. Many companies have developed inline-6s recently, even the much smaller Toyota's partner- Mazda. Yet, Toyota went with the hot vee V6 design.

Both Landcruiser and Patrol really don't have a V8 legacy, like it is not a core attribute. V8s are only two generations old in the Landcruiser and the Patrol had a V8 only for one generation. The VQ family V6 in the Patrol has a strong track record, while the new turbo petrol comes from Nissan's sportcar engine family. So have to wait and see.

Not the target market. The LC and Patrol are sold in any significant numbers only in 2 markets - the Gulf and Australia. You need something as mechanical as possible to drive around in the Aussie outback or the Rub Al Khali desert (never mind most are driven by Arab soccermoms), though I’ll be fair these latest generations aren’t as mechanical as many would like. The US prefers even larger (and cheaper) barges like the Toyota Sequoia, Chevy Tahoe/Suburban, GMC Yukon, Ford expedition etc while the rest of the world prefers smaller SUVs with better road manners.

The Land Cruiser (the LC300) and Patrol would’ve either gone extinct or become completely different kinds of products if it weren’t for the Gulf and Aussie markets.
