Maserati could indeed be sold off to a new buyer, Stellantis CFO states

According to media reports, the Italian luxury car brand Maserati, currently owned by the Stellantis Group, could be sold off. The report follows company CEO Carlos Tavares' recent announcement that the conglomerate was considering killing off car brands which aren't making any money.

Maserati is an iconic Modena-based brand but has been suffering in sales over the past year. The car brand recently registered a 50% decline in global sales, with just 6,500 units between January to June 2024. In comparison, sales figures stood at 15,300 units during the same period last year.

Natalie Knight, CFO of Stellantis, stated, "The first half has been disappointing. The future is about how we maintain best value. There could be some point in the future when we look at what’s the best home for [Maserati]."

The CFO also stated that one of the main reasons for the brand's decline is the discontinuation of its key models like the Ghibli, Quattroporte and Levante. The company currently sells just the new GranTurismo and Grecale, along with the MC20 supercar. What's worse is that Maserati's lineup is expected to remain unchanged till 2027, until the pure-electric replacement to the Levante arrives. The brand is also working on an electric successor to the Quattroporte, but even this has been pushed to 2028.

Stellantis says Maserati is not for sale.

Good to see an automotive company not listening to its bean counters. Too many good automotive institutions have had to bite the dust, including Ford India, because of them.

With the recent news of quite a few revered automotive institutions closing down, this comes as a breath of fresh air.
