Ferrari feels e-fuels & hydrogen powertrains are the "way forward", confirms CEO

Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna has said that hydrogen powertrains and e-fuels could power some of the brand's future models. The CEO added that the brand is keen on developing both technologies, using motorsport.

Vigna stated that carbon-neutral fuels will "become more & more a reality." He further added, "We are working with partners for 2026 for carbon-neutral fuel in Formula 1 [as part of new technical rules] and usually technologies start out on the track and migrate to the road."

The Ferrari boss also believes that carbon-neutral fuels are the way forward to support future ICE cars. He mentioned, "We believe there is still a valid way forward for ICE cars and this is going to be supported by the development of carbon-neutral fuel."

Vigna also stated that Ferrari is interested in hydrogen technology. However, he doesn't see it coming before 2030 and also that it will be the racing space to first adopt the technology.

Ferrari is currently working on its next halo supercar, which will be a successor to the brand's LaFerrari. The hypercar, codenamed F250, has already been spotted testing on multiple occasions ahead of its arrival sometime next year.

Yes, the world is moving on towards alternative fuels and all the major brands recognise that it shouldn't be long before petrol or diesel cars are phased out in favour of hybrids, thereafter electric, hydrogen and whatever is more sustainable.
