According to a media report, Kia is said to be planning the next-generation iteration of the Seltos SUV. The next-generation Kia Seltos is expected to arrive sometime next year and will feature a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain.

The reports go on to suggest that the Kia Seltos hybrid could borrow the powertrain from Hyundai's Kona Hybrid SUV. The new-generation Seltos will reportedly enter production in August 2025 and arrive at showrooms in its home country by the end of next year.



The upcoming Seltos could be powered by a 1.6-litre hybrid unit, with an optional 'electronic' all-wheel drive via an electric motor driving the rear wheels. In the Kona Hybrid, the 1.6-litre NA 4-cylinder engine is paired with a 32 kW electric motor, developing combined power figures of 140 BHP and 265 Nm. The hybrid unit will be mated to a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

The hybrid unit will be offered alongside the standard ICE-only Seltos trims. The Seltos Hybrid is part of Kia's plans to introduce nine hybrid models by 2028, as demand for pure-EVs wavers.

Kia is yet to officially announce details for next-gen Seltos.

Hybrid is the way forward. Good to see them banking on this rather than EVs, especially for India.

However, the power figures do seem somewhat lower. On the flip side if the EV only range is anywhere close to 30 KMs, I would be very happy.

If this happens it would be a great upgrade to my current Seltos. One of the only complaints I have with my Seltos IVT is the poor mileage. A hybrid would be a massive boon for my mostly city usage.

Only thing that scares me is given current pricing for the Seltos. The higher trims already cross 25L on road. I fear this hybrid drivetrain could push it uncomfortably close to 30L. That would be a big pill to swallow for this segment.

Really happy to read this and I hope in time it could pave the way for a strong hybrid Carens as well (fingers crossed).

I am kind of tired of the entire Toyota MPV monopoly, amplified by their strong hybrid dominance. I would love it if aggressive brands like Kia and Hyundai break into that space too. I'd be much happier choosing a Carens strong hybrid over a Hycross than a Carens petrol A/T over the latter.

Even in the Seltos segment, a strong hybrid option will be a welcome addition for those who want to have a fuel efficient ride without opting for diesel. It was a missed opportunity for Honda with the Elevate and glad the see the Koreans are looking to capitalise on this segment.

Next Gen 2026 Kia Seltos to be a 7-seater.

Kia has recently announced their upcoming SUV, the Syros, which will be positioned between the Sonet and the Seltos. To keep a noticeable size difference between the Seltos and the Syros, the carmaker can increase the Seltos’s length, and push it closer to the mid-size SUV segment. Kia could pull a La Citroen Aircross, where it could offer a 5 and a 7 seater option. After all Kushaq, Taigun, UC Hyryder, Grand Vitara and upcoming XUV 500 big bad return, all will also have 7-seater options.

The launch timeline for the new Seltos has not been revealed, but it is likely to be unveiled sometime in late 2025 or early 2026.

Latest spy shots of new Kia Seltos 2025 model are credited to Power Stroke PS. Earlier spied in South Korea, spy shots reveal that while the boxy and rugged profile of the Seltos remains intact, substantial updates are expected in the design. The front and rear bumpers, grille, and lighting elements are set to receive a modern touch, aligning the design with Kia’s latest EV lineup.

In addition to the range of petrol and diesel engines on offer with existing Seltos, new gen Seltos is also expected to get a hybrid powertrain. Borrowing from Hyundai Kona Hybrid, the Seltos could feature a 1.6-litre hybrid engine producing 141 hp. Additionally, e-AWD could be offered in international markets, catering to European preferences. While India-specific powertrain options remain unconfirmed, the hybrid setup could give the Seltos an edge in fuel efficiency and performance, aligning with market demand for greener vehicles.

Looks rather bad.

When the facelift was revealed, I already felt the rear too be a downgrade in design. With the new gen, the connected tail lamps look more bad. It looks something like this I guess:-

The face too looks pretty much like a downgrade, compared to the present one. The present one look quite stylish and timeless.

And the alloys ? When will Kia design good alloy wheel designs?

Not impressed with the looks of the new generation.

And whats up with the upright rear windshield? 7 seater version in the works? Hope not.

Gotta say, this render looks fabulous. I was honestly a huge fan of the Seltos back in 2019 and 2020 however, I feel like the facelift, which was supposed to increase the sales of the brand worked inversely. If Kia brings the new gen Seltos before the new gen Creta, I can definitely see people choosing this a lot more. The design definitely makes it look boxier and more premium. Exciting times ahead.

2nd-gen Kia Seltos spied with new LED headlamps

The second-generation Kia Seltos was first spied in November last year. Now, fresh images of the car, revealing more interesting details, have surfaced online.



The latest prototype of the upcoming Seltos was seen sporting what appears to be production-ready headlamp clusters. This new setup has a unique LED light signature with five vertical bars. The SUV also has a redesigned mirror housing.



The new Seltos is likely to be based on the same platform as the current model. As far as the powertrains are concerned, the 1.5-litre petrol, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines could be carried over. There are talks of the Seltos getting a new 1.6-litre petrol hybrid, though.



The second-generation Kia Seltos is expected to make its global debut later this year and could arrive at our shores by 2026.
