Renault Duster-based 7-seater SUV spied for the first time ahead of global unveil

Renault-owned brand, Dacia, recently unveiled the all-new Duster SUV globally. However, the carmaker is also said to be working on a 7-seater version of the SUV, expected to be called the 'Bigster'.

The Bigster will be based on the Duster, sharing a lot of components including the same CMF-B platform. The 7-seater SUV is expected to be globally unveiled by Dacia sometime later this year, while its Renault version will arrive at a slightly later stage.

According to reports, the new Dacia Bigster will measure 4.6 metres in length - 300 mm longer than the Duster. It will also have a slightly longer wheelbase, allowing for a slightly more spacious cabin. In terms of design, the Bigster will carry forward many styling elements from the Duster. The interiors are expected to make use of slightly more upmarket materials to justify the higher price tag.

The Dacia Bigster will also carry forward the same powertrain options as the Duster. This includes a 1.6-litre petrol-hybrid, a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol with a 48V starter motor and a 1.0-litre petrol-LPG, depending on the market. Similar to the Duster, the Bigster will also get a 4x4 and 4x2 option, along with multiple drive modes.

The Renault version of the Bigster is expected to make its way into the Indian market as well. However, the 7-seater SUV will arrive only after the new Duster; which itself is scheduled to go on sale in India in 2025.

While the Duster takes on the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos; the Bigster will go up against the likes of the Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra XUV700 and the Kia Carens.

This Duster & Bigster covers engine options expected in 2025 in the form of both Hybrid & turbo petrol. Renault has got enough feedback on the interior that was putting off buyers and has mostly achieved the expected layout and quality now.

The carpet ride quality and the robustness are something which the current peers could not achieve and will remain the top USP of this car. Pricing will likely remain competitive and the neutral A.S.S experience without the injector issues this time can get and maintain decent numbers for Renault after launch.

In my opinion, the bigster should do decent here, since it may get awd (the OG duster did) and if Renault plonks the 1.3 turbo engine into it with a bit of tuning to increase low end torque, the competition will have a worthy opponent..
The bigster would be the only one with awd, meaning it will be able to do some soft offroading and do well in areas where roads are iffy/non existent.
Since we know the duster platform is pretty good in itself, the bigster should be no different.. just hope they price it right and give a decent amount of kit inside.. ( the mk3 dacia Logan gets ventilated seats and adas(?))
(Or just watch the carwow video of it)

The new Dacia Bigster has been spied again, to revolutionise the cheap SUV market.

A model that will turn the market for cheap SUVs with three rows of seats upside down. It will be unveiled this year and will arrive in dealerships in 2025.

Quote:
Under the hood there will be no surprises either. We will find a mechanical offer very similar to that of the Duster. It will be available with electrified petrol engines to a greater or lesser level with mild hybrid (MHEV) and self-charging hybrid (HEV) technologies. In the same way, a bi-fuel version prepared to use LPG as fuel will be offered. Therefore, all versions of the Bigster will wear the ECO environmental badge of the DGT (Directorate General of Traffic) with all the mobility advantages that this entails.

All-new 7-seater Renault Duster spied testing ahead of global unveil

The all-new Dacia Bigster (7-seater version of the new-gen Duster) has been spied undergoing testing in Spain.

The all-new three-row SUV will borrow design cues from the recently unveiled 2025 Duster, both of which, have been inspired by the brand's Bigster concept from 2021. The spy images of the upcoming 3-row Duster showcase the SUV featuring a set of slim LED headlights with integrated LED DRLs, a blacked-out grille, a large air intake on the front bumper and Y-shaped LED tail lights at the rear; among others.

As per reports, the upcoming Dacia Bigster (three-row Duster) will measure 4.6 metres in length; similar to the latest-gen Volkswagen Tiguan. It will be underpinned by the same CMF-B platform as the 2025 Duster SUV, which will help keep costs down.

Inside, the three-row SUV will carry forward a lot of features and tech from the Duster. This includes the 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a bunch of other creature comforts as well.

Renault is yet to announce the powertrain options on the upcoming SUV.

The upcoming Dacia Bigster (7-seater Duster) is expected to be unveiled globally sometime by the end of 2024 or early 2025. Pricing for the upcoming Bigster is expected to start from GBP 20,000.

Looks very nice in my opinion. A lot of my friends want to join me on my off road (mis)adventures but cannot do so because they don't want the Thar and the Scorpio N and Fortuner are way out of reach for them or just isn't a priority.
This may be the answer for that.

However, if and when they launch it here, I really hope that they do not pull a 'Tata' on it (i.e. either no AWD or AWD without AT).
Tata is literally giving Mahindra a bull run in the 4x4 segment and the latter keeps jacking up the prices because of the same.

Really hope this makes it India quickly. The Renault hasn't been doing very well lately because most of their products are in the budget range. They definitely do need something in the 10-20 lakh segment to maintain sales.

Re: All-new 7-seater Renault Duster spied testing ahead of global unveil

The 2WD Duster itself was a very capable vehicle. I can vouch for its simplicity reliability, low maintenance and graceful ageing. The ride quality even after 93000kms was exceptional. It has given lots of memories even off-road trips in dry seasons. I recently exchanged by beloved Duster for XUV700 only for the need of a 7 seater.
Renault should have upgraded their Diesel engine for BS6.2.
Hope the Bigster has a usable 3rd row for adults. Given the design language I doubt it. It is difficult to fill the Duster shoes again, the brand train has left the station and the automotive scene has moved on. Tata's and Mahindra's have caught up to the game.
What was a first move advantage in crossover segment is not anymore.

Duster was agile, had the go anywhere attitude and sedan like planted handling. Can the Bigster manage that with the added bulk, only time will tell.
