Re: Lazante unveils F1-engined Porsche 911 with 625 BHP, revving up to 10,250 rpm Resto-modding is not a novel concept, with boutique firms like Singer, Theon Design and even RPM Technik churning out bespoke examples of artwork masquerading as automobiles.
UK based race-car restoration powerhouse, Lazante, a company that specialises in restoration and service of McLaren cars, and also adorns the Hindu God Ganesha as its official logo (as recommended to them by George Harrison of The Beatles), has taken stab at resto-modding an air-cooled 911, in ways you cannot even fathom!

Someone in Lanzante thought it was a brilliant idea to shoehorn the twin-turbo 1.5L V6 engine from McLaren MP4/2 F1 car driven by Niki Lauda during the 1984 season, into the rear end of an old 911 (930)!
In order to make it usable and last longer than a typical race distance, Lanzante extensively rebuilt the Porsche-TAG V6, in collaboration with Cosworth. The revs are now limited to 9,000 RPM, peak power / torque have been reduced to 503 horsepower and 310lb-ft, thanks to smaller turbos running lower boost.
In its original form, i.e. Formula 1 spec, the engine would redline at 11,800 RPM in race-trim and 12,600 RPM in qualifying-trim. Power figures were anywhere between 600 and 1060 horsepowers, depending on the circuit, setup and race requirements. The transmission in the F1-engined Porsche is a new 6-speed manual transaxle, supplemented by a limited-slip differential with custom ratios which enables the car to hit a top speed of 200 mph.
The 930 chassis, suspension and brakes have also been extensively reworked in order to harness the extra power and torque. Weight is approximately 2,400lbs.
Only 11 cars will be built using the engines acquired by Lanzante from McLaren, and each car will have a plaque in the engine bay, detailing the engine's race history and the drivers who drove them.
