Another year, another Portlan (Oregon) Auto Swap Meet. This is one that a couple of friends and myself do every year. The only downside this year was the ridiculous rental we were given (you'll see why in the 1st couple of pics). In case anyone hasn't read my previous years posts, this is a gigantic swap meet spread across 2 very large venues with indoor and outdoor vendors, engines, parts, and vehicles in all conditions (rust bucket complete restoration required to driver quality to immaculate restorations, and everything in between). You never know what you're going to find, either on the vehicle end or parts end, or engines end. Last year, there were more Ford engines, this year not really. More GM engines instead. Anyway you get the picture. I'll let the pics do the talking. There were definitely a couple of vehicles I was really tempted by, but decided not to since I don't have the room anymore and they would have been redundant. I also touched base with fellow foodie mobike008 and got some good recommendations for restaurants in the Seattle area which we were passing through on our way to the swap meet. Couldn't try them this time, but they're on my list

This was the disaster we received for our rental. If you've read any of my posts in the past, you may have gathered that I don't really have any positive views on electric or hybrid vehicles (for a variety of reasons). To each their own. Unfortunately, my buddy, who incidentally is a big time Jeeper, and has multiple rock crawling Jeeps that he takes to places Moab and Rubicon etc rented a Jeep. Instead of a Jeep, we got this thing. It was actually pretty hilarious the moment both of us realized we had gotten the Godawful "Jeep" 4Xe hybrid. Among other issues, it also had 20 inch tires, in a Jeep!!. It's a complete piece of bat guano in our opinion. Luckily, no one knew us down there, so they couldn't laugh at us for driving that thing!

Old Cadillac for sale


Beautiful old Ford truck that had moss growing on it.

There were a bunch of old Jeeps this year. We hadn't seen that in years past. And all of them sold by the end of the Swap meet





One of my favorites. Old 1978 Bronco. Doesn't get any better than this





This was one we were both really tempted by. My favorite auto manufacturer. A 1968 Pontiac LeMans stick shift. Running and driving, needed some work but nothing major. Great price. These are the same body style as the legendary Pontiac GTO, but cheaper.

This 25th Anniversary Corvette looked pretty good on the exterior, but interior needed work, mainly wiring. Didn't sell even with lowered price.








Beautiful engine. I wouldn't want to work on a Tri-Power (3 two barrel carb) setup ever though. Can't imagine the hassle of tuning all 3 to function seamlessly. Dealing with a single 4 barrel carb in my 1977 Pontiac Firebird is enough for me!








This was a Bronco that seriously tempted me. And I mean seriously. I considered it, but didn't, since it would have been completely redundant to my very offroad capable Toyota Tacoma. Great deal, and a ton of work done to it. These are getting hard to find, leave alone at this price








Remember those parties in college where all the guys would congregate around the 1 hot chick? I'm obviously partial to this (since I have a white 1977 Trans-Am). Obviously so is every other guy This one sold on the very 1st day for the asking price.








One of the most beautiful front end designs ever. The legendary 1977-1978 "Hawkbill" front end.


Didn't know about this company (Diamond) before. One of my friends did. Guess they're really sought after by collectors. This truck was asking $30K, and I think it sold

Really cool old International Scout. This one needed some work, but was a good price. These are really hard to find in this condition anymore, and are very sought after


Cheap 4th generation Corvette. The 4th generation Vettes can be had for quite cheap in really good shape. This one was overpriced in my opinion for the work it needed to the interior. I had one of these a while ago. They're fun.





Needless to say, this Corvette was not cheap!!





This was the car I was incredibly tempted by. My buddy wanted the 1968 Pontiac LeMans, but I wanted this. A legendary 1970 Pontiac GTO, running and driving with a Pontiac 455 cubic inch engine. Looks rough, but it was completely rust free (with the exception of the surface rust). Floors were completely intact as was the trunk. Great price. If this was in town, I'd have been hard pressed not to buy it





Another beaut. A 1976 Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am. This one has been at the swap meet for the past couple years and hasn't sold. Don't know why. Price seemed good.

1980s era Ford Fox Body Mustang








Immaculate 1968 Dodge Charger. Very sought after, always expensive. This one was asking $60K or thereabouts, and sold





1968 or 1969 (don't remember) Oldsmobile 442











I really liked this old 1950s Chevy. Great price, and very rare factory 4x4. Back in the 1950's most trucks were 2wd farm use trucks, so a 4x4 was not common at all











Remember what I said about 1968-1970 Chargers being incredibly sought after and unobtainium? This was a complete rust bucket 1968 roller (no engine/transmission) or interior. Rusty. But had the original title and paperwork. Asking price was $28K. And it sold














I loved this view. Lot of folks just drive their old cars to the swap meet and back. Something fun and old school in the middle of all the boring modern mediocrity

This was day 2 of the Swap Meet. We did the indoors stuff (and some outdoors stuff) on the 2nd day since we knew the weather was going to change and get rainy.







Not quite sure why they chose this vehicle for the display. The Swap Meet is most definitely not geared towards anything without an engine





Engines anyone? Great deals on really built up big V8s ready to toss into your project car.











Pristine Rolls Royce...for $16K. It sold, which surprised me. You can find used Rolls for quite cheap on Craigslist etc. Guess they don't really sell well out here at least, since maintenance is super expensive (brake parts not counting labor can cost upward of $5k)

1969 Chevy Chevelle with a 502 cubic inch (8200 cc) engine. My friend who was with us has one of these in incredible condition. Gets ~6 mpg, and insane power


Yup, you can get even these for sale at the Swap Meet


The legendary Buick Grand National Turbo. These cars were insane for the time. Complete sleepers, and tore apart the competition on the street.

Agreed. You can't go wrong with any GTO!
