Volkswagen has unveiled a new iteration of its popular Polo hatchback in the Brazilian market. Called the Volkswagen Polo Robust, the hatchback revisits the rugged look of the old Polo Cross and even gets a raised suspension setup.



As per reports, the new VW Polo Robust has been "developed and tested with customers in the agricultural segment." The crossover-esque version of the Polo has been raised for better ground clearance and even comes with a trailer hitch. Inside, VW Brazil has fitted the Polo Robust with vinyl seats that are easier to clean while also offering rubber floor mats.



The Volkswagen Polo Robust is powered by a small 1.0-litre petrol engine. It produces 84 BHP and 101 Nm and is paired with a standard 5-speed gearbox.



The VW Polo Robust is said to be a smaller alternative to the pickups available locally.

Since Skoda is coming up with sub 4m SUV, I think they should seriously consider bringing Polo & Fabia with raised suspension like this Brazilian model.

Baleno, i20, Altroz sell in decent numbers for this segment to be called dead & VAG cannot play a volume game (5% market share) by not bringing models in this segment.

That's some great work. As if the varied special colour editions were not sufficient, now we have occupational editions. So we could have :

1. Engineers edition with lot of gadgetry.
2. Lawyers and police edition with bulletproof glass, thick metal sheets.
3. Doctors edition with lots of first aid kit.

On another note, with the kind of roads and pollution here, this will appeal to everyone.

It does look nice, and offers a car suitable for the purpose. Its very good to see that VW is going back to its roots to design rugged utilitarian vehicles for the Brazilian market. Wish they offered the same car here in India. As long as they price it reasonably, it should do well. There is a dearth of good small passenger cars in the Indian market and this vehicle (if launched) could help bring in some much needed competition to the sector.

Polo with GC (thanks to our potholes, speedbreakers) with tested rugged badge (again thanks to our road network) will do wonder in India. And looking at the resale value of Polo / GT, plus lack of good alternative in 3.8-4M hatch segment (no polo, no figo, no punto, almost no Jazz) there is an opportunity for VW to re enter this segment.

This is only a stopgap product until the new Gol replacement SUV (codenamed VW Yeh! project) for Brazil which is rumoured to be on Skoda's new MQB-A00 platform. So effectively we will be getting the Polo Track/Robust's successor
