Honda has launched the Elevate in South Africa. The SUV is manufactured in India and exported to the country.

In South Africa, the Honda Elevate is available in two variants: Comfort and Elegance, with prices starting at R 3,69,900, which is approximately Rs 15.92 lakh.

In terms of its design, the South Africa-spec Elevate looks identical to the one sold in India. The SUV has a large, upright grille up front flanked by a set of LED headlights and stylish L-shaped LED taillights.

The Elevate gets an all-black interior with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, a digital instrument cluster and a wireless charger. The South African version misses out on a 10.25-inch touchscreen and ADAS that is available on the India-spec car.

The Elevate is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 119 BHP and 145 Nm. The engine is mated to either a 6-speed manual or a CVT.

Those black interiors look tasty!
I wonder why most Indian cars dont offer separate color schemes for interiors. Even if they do it is mostly restricted to variants.

1. In terms of Rand to Rs is there a price differential?

2. Good opportunity for Honda to increase output. This leads to my next obvious question- what is there max capacity at Tapukara (Rajasthan)? Cant they sell more than the current monthly average of 5000 domestic Elevate. Or is Honda comfortable with current levels?

Not sure how much this will add to Honda India's production volumes. Already Honda sells less cars in South Africa in a year than they do in India in a month.

Add to that the fact that at 10000 rand (INR 50k) more than the base manual Elevate is the Honda Fit (Jazz), complete right from the base variant with a CVT, six airbags, Honda Sensing, arguably better interiors, and a better-integrated "original" Honda entertainment system (not the Amaze's unit that's fitted to the African Elevate). Except for maybe the leatherette seats and more masculine exteriors/ground clearance there is not much of a case for the Elevate.

Those keen on an SUV would get much better-specced Chinese rivals instead, like the GWM Haval Jolion.

It’s 15k/month or 1.8L cars per annum. And considering maintenance shutdowns etc, I doubt they can produce any more than 13k cars per month.

Amaze, City, Elevate for India market currently sums upto ~8-9k, rest ~4-5k I believe is earmarked for exports.

So I feel Honda India is comfortable with the current sales considering their current plant capacity.
