Clarkson, Hammond & May quit The Grand Tour | End of an era

Just days after the BBC announced that it would be putting the television show Top Gear on hiatus, its former hosts are leaving their very own program. Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May have decided to stop filming Amazon’s The Grand Tour.

“We’re done. I have reviewed cars on TV since 1989. That’s 34 years,” the 63-year-old presenter told The Times. “And after next year, I won’t be doing that anymore.”

Viewers will have at least one more opportunity to watch the trio on The Grand Tour. The announcement that they are leaving the show comes shortly after they returned from Zimbabwe to film a special that is set to air next year.

Re: Clarkson, Hammond & May quit The Grand Tour | End of an era

With the timing of the exits and the closure of Top Gear, a lot of folks would think that this is a ruse to get back to Top Gear who may have made them an offer they couldnt refuse. And it could very well be.

Everything else being equal, working with the BBC would be a lot better than Amazon for a Brit.

They are probably serving a cooling off period now.

As for Clarkson’s statement that he’s done reviewing cars he would come back with his usual tongue in cheek manner “I changed my mind”.

As an enthusiast, I hope this happens.

I really do hope that this is the case because despite having known that this day would eventually come, it's hard to describe how unprepared I am for this. For most of us on this platform, Top Gear and Grand Tour are more than just TV shows that we watch to kill time.

In my case, they ignited my passion towards cars and shaped me into the automobile enthusiast and engineer I am today, so the thought of this coming to an end is tearing me up, and I can definitely say that I will shed more than a tear or two if the two specials lined up for next year end up being their last.
