E-bike adoption has already helped cut down global oil demand 4 times more than electric cars

Countries and carmakers around the world have been investing heavily over the past couple of years to reduce carbon emissions. While most of them are concentrating on electric cars, there is one industry which has already done more to reduce emissions than cars & that is e-bikes.

According to a report, while electric cars are big, expensive and need more convincing - e-bikes are much more affordable and can be adopted faster. Last year's data shows that 20 million electric cars and 1.3 million electric buses, vans and trucks were operating around the world. This is nothing compared to the 280 million e-bikes, scooters, mopeds and three-wheelers already in operation.

In countries where bikes & scooters are popular, affordable electric mobility solutions have picked up well. So much so that their adoption has already helped cut oil demand by one million barrels per day or roughly 1% of the global demand; this is 4-times more than what electric cars have managed to displace.

Researchers in the USA stated that if e-bike journeys constituted even just 11% of all vehicle trips, the total transportation-related emissions would come down by 7%. These researchers also stated that there is further room for improvement. Using even smaller electric mobility devices like skateboards & scooters could help solve the public's last-mile solutions.

There is also more opportunity for adoption in richer countries like the USA, wherein 60% of all car trips are less than 10 km long - a journey an e-bike can easily cover.

Sorry if this is off topic. Do we have good light weight electric bikes (not scooters or bicycle with electric assist) available in India?

If you are looking for an electric bike, checkout the Revolt RV400, which is now a common sight on the roads and has several showrooms and workshops when compared to its rivals. It also has the ability to produce artificial engine sounds, just in case you are missing an ICE Bike. Other than that, you also checkout the Oben Rorr, and the upcoming Matter Aera, which is the first electric bike to get a gearbox. You also get the option of Ultraviolet F77/F99, which claim to be the fastest electric bikes in India, but might not fit in your criteria.

Hope this picks up traction in India, but on the flipside i'm concerned about the long term reliability and recycling of e-bike batteries/components after seeing the massive dumpyards of such vehicles in China.

Recreational e-bikes look mighty too. Few of my friends picked these up in the US for short offroad trails and apparently it's a lot of fun.

Yes...This is exactly the kind of product I was talking about, have been seeing so many videos on such bikes, sadly we don't have any such options in India.
I also love the bmw ce02. I wonder how they price this scooter in India.
