Next-generation Jeep Wrangler to be electric-only; Launch slated for 2028

According to media reports, the next-generation iteration of the Jeep Wrangler could be offered exclusively with an electric powertrain.

Reports state that the current-gen Wrangler will be listed till 2028, with the 4xe Hybrid version slated to get an update in 2025. The next-gen J70 Wrangler though, slated for launch in 2028, will exclusively be offered with two electric powertrains - one being a battery-electric option, while the second uses a combustion engine as a range extender. The current ICE and plug-in hybrid powertrains of the Wrangler will be discontinued.

The new-gen Jeep Wrangler is expected to be unveiled in 2027, before going on sale in international markets sometime in 2028.

Reports also mention about the next-gen iterations of the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. Current-gen versions of both these models will also continue till 2028, with a mid-cycle refresh in 2025 and a second refresh in 2027. 2025 will also see the introduction of the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer's electric version with a range-extender engine, while their fully electric versions are listed for 2027.

Not sure how relevant the range extender concept will be by 2028. By that time charging infrastructure and fast charging would be ubiquitous and should be almost on par with gas stations in the US if present electrification trends continue. Don't think the range extender concept has ever taken off even during the nascent stages of the electric vehicle era.

BTW that blue Rubicon example looks stunning and I think this is the updated model that is yet to debut in India. Also, not sure what kind of body style it is as it doesn't have a C-pillar.
