Next-generation BMW X2 teased; Global unveil expected by end 2023

BMW is all set to unveil its next-generation X2 crossover in the global markets. The crossover has been spied testing on multiple occasions and now ahead of its unveiling, the German carmaker has released the official teaser for the new X2.

The dark teaser image doesn't reveal much about the upcoming BMW X2. However, it does indicate the larger and bolder front grille outlined by two C-shaped LED strips. The new-generation X2 can also be seen featuring a new set of headlamps with two vertical LED DRLs on each of them. Also, the front bonnet features two prominent creases at the centre.

Reports also suggest that the new-generation BMW X2, like its larger X4 and X6 siblings, will feature a fastback roofline.

While the changes on the interiors are yet to be revealed, the cabin is also expected to come with some significant updates, in line with the brand's latest models. BMW is also yet to unveil the specifications of the upcoming X2, although, reports do suggest a 4-cylinder, 6-cylinder and hybrid powertrain offerings. There could also be a fully electric version, in the form of iX2 in certain markets.

BMW is expected to globally unveil the new-generation X2 sometime before the end of this year.

Forgot such a model existed.

Isn't this based on the FWD platform? How did they shoehorn the inline-6 in this one?

BMW has unveiled the second-generation X2 alongside its pure electric version, the iX2.

The new BMW X2 is larger than the previous version. The new SUV is 200 mm longer, 21 mm wider and 64 mm taller than the outgoing model and it rides on massive 21-inch alloy wheels, which are optional.

In terms of design, the BMW X2 adopts the brand’s latest design philosophy. The front end is reminiscent of the new 5 Series, albeit in a scaled-up form. The car has strong shoulder lines running along the sides and a coupe-like roofline. The rear features dual LED taillights, while the sportier M35i variant gets a gloss black spoiler at the back.

The second-gen X2 gets a new dashboard equipped with BMW’s Curved Display. It includes a 12.3-inch infotainment screen alongside a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. The SUV comes with features such as dual-zone automatic climate control, electrically adjustable seats with a massage function, a head-up display, wireless charging, Park Assist and cruise control; among others.

The BMW X2 is available with a 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 154 BHP and 280 Nm, a 2.0-litre petrol that puts out 297 BHP and 400 Nm and a 2.0-litre diesel that belts out 149 BHP and 360 Nm. All variants get a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission as standard.

The BMW iX2 uses a dual-motor setup with a combined output of 309 BHP and 494 Nm, which enables the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. The iX2 has a WLTP-certified range of 450 km. The battery supports 130 kW DC fast charging.

ooh! What a lovely looking car . Those rear 3 quarters got me drooling.
I have always liked mercedes' SUV coupes more than BMWs and audi's. But this looks so butch and nice at the same time.

*wipes drool from laptop*

now all we have to do is wait for BMW to bring this to India with an under-powered engine

Re: Next-generation BMW X2 teased; Global unveil expected by end 2023

BMW coupe SUVs i.e. X4/X6 are the sportiest looking SUVs in my opinion (merc GLC/GLE are drool worthy as well but are not as macho as the BMWs) but the design looked human still. This X2 seems to have been designed by chatGPT or something, extremely block-y design, lost all curves. The new gen X1 still look very stylish with only the over-designed rear as a problem area, especially the black-Fiber rear bumper, looks like they were left with extra stuff which they couldn't throw away so they just put it in the car!. This X2 had to just get that right, but it worsened the rear bumpers even more, those black things above the exhaust piper looks like Lego block playwork!

Re: Next-generation BMW X2 teased; Global unveil expected by end 2023

This seems like a very practical and sporty Car for India. In the X2 M28i guise, 250HP and 400 NM Torque on this 4.55 m long car should be plenty of power! Good ground clearance of 205 mm.

If one wants even more power, there is the M35i with 312 HP and 400 NM to whisk you from 0-100 in 5.2 seconds! Torque seems to be limited to 400 NM due to the 7 speed DSG gearbox's limitation.

I hope BMW brings the X2 M35i to India with CKD assembly and prices it reasonably. Sincerely hope they do not limit the India launch to the X2 18i with the 1.5 litre petrol engine producing just 154 HP & 280 NM or even worse, the current engine from the X1 that makes just 136 HP.

The M35i should be a real cracker to drive and practical to use on our unpredictable roads. Going by the trend established with the X1, it should come with tubeless tires (instead of Run-Flats) and should be less prone to blowouts.
