Nissan is working on a new-generation iteration of its Kicks SUV for the global market. The current-generation version has been on sale for 6 years now and the Japanese carmaker is expected to introduce the new-gen model sometime next year.



Ahead of its official unveil, the next-generation Nissan Kicks SUV has been spotted testing for the first time. As seen from the images, the prototype of the new-gen SUV is heavily camouflaged, revealing little to no details. However, the SUV does appear to be slightly larger than the current model, while the silhouette suggests a significant design change, bringing it in line with Nissan's latest design language.



The new-gen Kicks SUV could borrow design inspiration from its Ariya EV, featuring a wide front grille, sleek LED headlamps and a large air intake at the bottom. The rear appears to be more upright than the current model, while also featuring a rear spoiler, a pronounced deck section on the tailgate and a chunky rear bumper. The prototype can also be seen with newly-designed 3-spoke alloy wheels.

Nissan is yet to reveal any details officially of the upcoming Kicks SUV. However, reports state that the new-gen model could get an all-wheel-drive option. Also, if the new-gen Kicks is based on the latest CMF-B platform from Renault-Nissan, it then opens up the possibility of the SUV getting the brand's e-Power hybrid powertrain.

The proportions are practically the same between both Nissan models, but the end of the left headlight appears slightly uncovered and you can clearly see that it has the traditional orange turn signal, typical of American models, and a detail that is not characteristic even of the JUKE.

The new Nissan Kicks will change its platform to the more international and advanced CMF B, the same structure used by the Nissan JUKE and the mechanical base that will open the doors to electrification technology. The Japanese firm will offer a hybrid version equipped with the "e-Power" system, in addition to the four-cylinder gasoline engine and 1.6 liters atmospheric with 122 hp and an automatic change of continuous variator Xtronic. A model that is expected to debut later this year or early 2024

The subcompact crossover has grown in size, providing a more spacious and technology-packed interior.

the 2025 Nissan Kicks is exclusively available with a new naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine generating 139 hp (104 kW / 141 PS) and 140 lb-ft (190 Nm) of torque. This marks a significant boost of 17 hp (13 kW / 17 PS) and 26 lb-ft (36 Nm) compared to the 1.6-liter unit in the previous generation.

The non-electrified powertrain is coupled with Nissan’s latest iteration of the Xtronic automatic gearbox (CVT), distributing power to either the front or all four wheels. The optional Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system, available across the lineup, stands out as a key feature of the new generation. Combined with the “Snow” driving mode and a ground clearance of 8.4 inches (213 mm), it bolsters the crossover’s capabilities for light off-roading.

The subcompact crossover measures 171.9 inches (4,366 mm) in length, 70.9 inches (1,801 mm) in width, and 64-64.2 inches (1,626-1,631 mm) in height. Interestingly, there is a slight variation in the wheelbase, which spans 104.6 inches (2,657 mm) for the FWD model and 104.9 inches (2,664 mm) for the AWD versions.

All trims come standard with the Nissan Safety Shield 360 ADAS Suite, which includes Intelligent Cruise Control. The flagship SR trim offers the more sophisticated ProPILOT Assist system as an upgrade.

This has NISMO type retro styling cues! Reference image below. Seems like a good product definitely. Sadly though, Nissan never took India seriously

If Nissan is really serious about us as a market, it would need to invest into expanding its dealer base, after sales network and most importantly train its salesmen.

I have had a terrible experience with Nissan Hyderabad - felt humiliated and absolutely insulted that I ever visited them. Heard similar stories of absolute apathy and bad after sales stories from multiple people

That bluff front end looks very au fait with current tastes in our market. The side profile is par for the course like segment leaders like the Creta and it has a polarising rear again on par with some of the big names in that segment. Interior design also looks pleasing, it's very neutral but not too plain either.

Seems well placed to reinject some vigour back into the Nissan brand in the market, though it'd be wading into the most competitive segment. But surely there's room for more options if the package is done well.

My main fear mechanically is that CVT gearbox. I mostly drive mum's Micra when in country and it's a lovely car. Solid driving manners, interiors feel well built and engine is happy to rev but boy oh boy does that dim witted CVT gearbox drive me to my wits end. I've given up any notion of spirited driving with it, instead it's perfectly fine as a comfortable city runabout though that CVT coupled with a rev happy petrol means its a thirsty little thing. Hopefully the new CVT isn't as slow.
