| Ford developing rear-facing seats for its future SUVs; Patent filed According to reports, Ford has filed a patent for what it calls "a rear-facing tailgate seating assembly". As per the patent filings, future SUVs from Ford could get third-row seats that are facing backwards. The images show that the seats aren't mounted in a conventional position but rather find room in the boot. The rear-facing seats can be stowed away into a well in the car's floor to extend luggage space when not in use.  When deployed though, they become rear-facing seats when the tailgate is down. The seats are even attached to a rail, allowing customers to slide them forward or backwards, depending on their needs. The backrest of the seats can also be positioned upright or folded down, while there is also a footrest on offer. Ford is said to offer both individual and bench seat options.  The rear-facing seat assembly isn't a new concept though. Tesla introduced a similar type of kit on its Model Y back in 2012, before discontinuing it soon after. Also, while the patent looks similar to the "Viewing Suite" offered on the Rolls Royce Cullinan, reports say that the seats being patented by Ford are different.
