Re: 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe unveiled: Gets a completely new striking design overhaul

What an absolute trainwreck of a design , especially at the rear where it seems like they completely forgot what they were doing. The current iteration, despite the ugly grille, looks better in comparison. Hyundai lacks a consistent design philosophy, and their designs seem to come from parallel universes with each generation. This one looks like a budget Range Rover gone wrong.

Except the gouge-my-eyes-out, what-on-earth-were-you-thinking rear, I absolutely LOVE this design. Finally they have taken a break from their infinity+1 cuts-and-creases over-designed looks. This design is neat and clean and will age very well, just like some of the designs they seem to be .. ahem .. inspired by .

A quick MS Paint job to make it a little more palatable, to me at least:

This looks so much better, Hyundai should pay you for this as a design consultant

On a side note, why does Hyundai want everything to look like LR Defender. Ultra-small defender = Exter, Extra-large defender = SantaFe. Expecting Creta facelift to look like this, too!

By the time the Hyundai designer reaches the rear, he dozes off and seems he is notorious for that!!!...

Re: 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe unveiled: Gets a completely new striking design overhaul

The real deal:

Not even BMW's revival of the vertical kidney grille created this much controversy when it debuted compared to the boldly styled 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe.

Quote:
We're not talking about a single design element, but rather about the entire car. If we were to highlight one part of the SUV, it would have to be the rear with its gigantic tailgate and unusually low-mounted taillights. The Defender 130-esque profile and H-themed lights are just as eye-catching.
Quote:
Judging by what people are saying online about the new Santa Fe, the "problem" is with how Hyundai designed the rear as the rest of the SUV has generally received positive feedback

No one will be able to afford these things in India. Our absurd policies (duties and taxes) have made sure that even mainstream cars will remain pricey and out of common mans reach.

However the car looks great inside out.

Rightly said, but if Toyota can sell feature-less Fortuner at a premium, then maybe Hyundai can try for Palisade, and Santa Fe too in the 50L price segment by offering a proper 7/8 seater. Worth a try, but let's see

Re: 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe unveiled: Gets a completely new striking design overhaul

The Korean designers can't help but ape / mix and match elements from the Euro Car makers ( Read Range Rover in this case) and some how goof it all up in the end. This is why most of their cars come across as being over designed for a lot of us folks who are used to the clean and timeless designs of Euro car makers.

Its also strange their designs some how get accepted in our markets and consumers go on to say things like, 'the design grows on you', 'its futuristic' and what not! Its as though the heads at Hyundai have flagged off a design completion and Interns are working hard to impress with such odd designs.

if you have been keeping up with their cars lineup, none of the cars follow a design language that is consistent to the brand like Euro cars. Exter looks different to Creta, that looks different to Alcazar, that looks different to Tucson, that looks different to the new Santa Fe. I some how like the previous gen Hyundais when they had the Fluidic Verna, Old gen Tucson and Santa Fes. Sadly none of their new designs are an evolution but just a rush of over designed elements fused together.

Re: 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe unveiled: Gets a completely new striking design overhaul

Looks like Hyundai still haven’t fired that designer who is responsible for rear end and has a history of designing some horrendous designs !! Creta, Verna, grand i10 and its sedan variant etc are some “namoonas”

Almost all Hyundai cars in Indian market today have pathetic tasteless rear ends, even Overdone mahindras look better !!

I quite like it. Including the tail light.
Thank god someone is bringing back boxy designs to soft and squishy CUVs that are rampant across every manufacturer and have lost any identity. I am pretty sure the design will grow on people in a while.

Re: 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe unveiled: Gets a completely new striking design overhaul

I'm honestly surprised so many people are liking this abomination. Not only Hyundai but also honda, ford, chevrolet, pretty much all mainstream average joe brands are going in this boxy designs with LEDs all around direction. They're trying to get back to the 80s. Personally I just hate how these modern designs look.
At this rate after 10 years, we will have cars that mimic Ford Model T.

The rear looks like a refrigerator door. And I quite like it.

Re: 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe unveiled: Gets a completely new striking design overhaul

The rear tail lights being higher up would have certainly made the rear more palatable. Its the low placement of the lights that is exacerbating the visual eyesore.

On a related note, it pains me when aesthetics overtake some common sense priorities. For instance, on a big SUV like this, its important for tail lights to be higher up also to ensure better visibility for following cars when the braking lights, ‘light up’. Somehow these things are getting lost in recent times.
