Toyota's luxury brand, Lexus, has unveiled the LBX - the brand's smallest SUV offering to date.



The new Lexus LBX is based on the TNGA-B platform, which also underpins the Toyota Yaris Cross. The new LBX measures 4,190 mm in length, 1,825 mm in width, and 1,560 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,580 mm.



In terms of design, the compact-SUV offering from the luxury brand features a reinterpreted "spindle grille" at the front, sleek LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs, and a full-width LED light bar making up the tail lights at the rear.



Inside, the LBX comes with a large 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 9.8-inch touchscreen infotainment display with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The car also features a 13-speaker Mark Levinson sound system and an optional head-up display; among a host of other features and tech. Lexus will also offer a variety of customisations on the LBX via its "Bespoke Build" system.



Powering the Lexus LBX is a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder petrol-hybrid powertrain, producing 134 BHP and 185 Nm and paired with a CVT automatic gearbox. The electrified powertrain allows the LBX to sprint from 0 - 100 km/h in a claimed 9.2 seconds.

The Lexus LBX will go on sale in select markets worldwide from Q4 2023.

Considering how this is based on the Yaris Cross, unlike the cheapest models from Merc/BMW who don't have even cheaper platform siblings, wonder how they will price this one. Looks like everything that one sees and touches has been Lexusified, this could be a good one for those looking at a proper premium city runabout.

Wonder how they managed to massage out 134bhp from the same 115bhp hybrid powertrain that the Hyryder has. Bigger battery? Or from the ICE itself?

Feel this was an unnecessary car from Lexus diluting its value. A More Luxury Yaris Cross with a Lexus badge, Toyota Board might be feeling different tho to launch this.

Next year I would be on the lookout for a small to mid-sized SUV/Cross over kind of design from a luxury marque. But these looks of a snake head are rather off putting and that rear seat leg space is a complete no-no. As a long term Lexus fan boy, I'd still tell Lexus, "For God's sake improve your facia design competence. Don't keep making cars with faces that will frighten children. Look at the other marques please!"

With designs like this one Lexus is diluting its brand. A luxury car maker should not go below a upper mid-sized car where dimensions go. Your buyers have large egos. The cars have to match that!

Lexus LBX launched in Japan, the premium 'Yaris Cross' !

The name LBX is derived from the initials of the Lexus Breakthrough (X )Crossover.

Speaking of Lexus, the entry-level CT was discontinued, and the seat was vacant. And this time, the LBX appeared based on the Yaris Cross.

The Lexus LBX has been officially announced. With a compact size of 4,190 mm in length (1,825 mm in width / 1,545 mm in height), it is a new model that combines a luxurious interior typical of Lexus and a crisp exterior design.

the platform uses Toyota's familiar GA-B, but it is also tuned specifically for Lexus.

The body is also made of hot-stamped material for the center pillar and front bumper reinforcement. The hot stamping material is a high-tensile steel sheet, and its tensile force is said to be in the 2 gigapascal class at the center pillar.

By using a hot stamping material that can be made thin while maintaining strength, LBX is lightweight, has high rigidity, and body strength.

The blue part is the hot stamping material. The hood is also made of aluminum!



The suspension uses a newly developed MacPherson strut at the front. The front suspension knuckles are forged aluminum knuckles to reduce weight under the spring, making it as special as a sports car.

At the rear, the FF model uses a torsion beam, and the AWD model uses a trailing arm type double wishbone. Since it is a newly developed shock absorber, it seems that expectations are very high.

The price is the same for both grades, "Cool" and "Relax", with the FF model being 4.6 million yen and the AWD model being 4.86 million yen. It will be powered by a 1.5-liter inline 3-cylinder hybrid engine.

In addition, a "bespoke build" is available for a limited edition of 100 units. It will be custom-made with a choice of interior colors and seat materials. With only 100 units, it seems to sell out in no time, but this one will be 5.5 million yen for FF and 5.76 million yen for AWD.
