Next-gen Toyota Camry spied testing; Global unveil expected by end-2023

Toyota is said to be working on a new-generation iteration of its best-selling mid-size sedan, the Camry.

According to reports, the new-generation Toyota Camry might not get a radical design change but will feature significant upgrades, both to its exterior and interior. The upcoming sedan could also feature new engine options as well.

Ahead of its global unveil, a prototype of the new-gen Toyota Camry was spotted undergoing testing. The spy images of the sedan don't reveal too many details, thanks to the heavy camouflage all around the car. However, the car does seem to carry forward similar overall dimensions as the current version. The new-gen Camry is also expected to be underpinned by the same TNGA-K platform while borrowing design cues from the Toyota Crown.

The interiors of the new-gen Toyota Camry will also get a major update. This could be in the form of a larger infotainment screen with the latest OS, a new digital instrument cluster and a bunch of added features and tech.

While Toyota is yet to officially announce any specifications of the upcoming Camry, reports suggest that the new sedan could get the 236 BHP all-wheel-drive hybrid setup. Lower variants are expected to be powered by a 203 BHP 2.5-litre four-cylinder unit. Toyota could also offer a more powerful 2.4-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine producing 265 BHP in certain markets.

Reports state that the new-gen Toyota Camry could be unveiled sometime by late-2023 and go on sale internationally in 2024

With every new generation, the Camry becomes better & better. More luxurious. The current-gen Camry is superior as a luxury car to the entry-level & more expensive German cars. Believe it or not, it's also a bit of fun to drive and no longer "boring". In terms of tech, the Camry is unmatched in the segment with that hybrid system giving you 15 kmpl in the city!

Before, the Lexus ES was a Toyota with an "L" badge. The current-gen Camry is a Lexus with the "T" badge. It's that good.

Never thought I'd ever say this, I am excited to see what Toyota has done with the new Camry . One of the most important sedans worldwide.

Camry is silent, peaceful to drive and stress-free to own. The hybrid Camry should find a ready market for many years to come. I just hope the prices don't rise higher than what it already is (sigh- wishes are horses)

As before, the car looks excellent and they should make sure the price should not go beyond 60 lakhs (OTR) in India. Otherwise, there will be very few takers. If they keep the price in check and as we don't see Skoda Octavia and Superb for sometime, this will be a good option for those who can stretch their budget a bit.

Toyota really aced the current on-sale Camry. I see so many on the road, even as private owned vehicles. The cab market has lapped them up due to improved efficiency from the Hybrid powertrain.

What I like about the Camry:
  • Looks
  • Comfort
  • Low cabin NVH
  • Ease of driving
  • Efficiency

Seems like the Camry will finally lose the V6 option in favour of turbocharged 4 cylinders. Toyota was the last hold with Honda going from V6s to turbocharged 4 cylinders to only hybrids (no more 250 hp+ version now).

Agree, having owned two generations of Camrys (2011 & 2017) in the family and two generations as company cars (2017 & 2022), I have to say that Toyota has really upped its game in the latest version in the driving dynamics department. Same with the new corolla too!

This is because those who want “sensible cars” generally go for crossovers now. The ones who buy sedans now are increasingly enthusiasts, so cars like the Camry, Sonata & accord have to be interesting to draw customers. For this reason, I think it’s a mistake for the accord to not offer a high-powered version anymore.

Wish Honda did something with their latest Gen Accord and at least bring it as CKD

Toyota Camry teased,

Toyota says, "A new dawn is coming," and accompanies that cryptic statement with a dark image of a new car. Can't be certain what car the company is teasing, but the next-gen Camry seems to be the most likely vehicle for the brand to be preparing for a premiere.

Goddamn that looks ugly. It's like a Camry had a baby with a Honda Accord and then they slapped the Prius headlights onto it.

I wouldn’t be too quick to judge. We have little to go with, from this picture.

Knowing how important the Camry is to Toyota, and the recent designs they’re putting out - I’d say it’ll be very unlikely for them to mess up the new Camry’s design.

Re: Next-gen Toyota Camry spied testing; Global unveil expected by end-2023

Toyota has really upped the Camry's design over the last 10 years. I remember when they first said they're moving to "Sporty" design, and I thought it was a gimmick. But over the last decade they've made the Camry, Corolla, Innova, Prius etc much more desirable from a design POV. The cars have also become way more efficient.

The latest gen 2022-2023 Camry (hybrid) is 1.75x-2x more efficient than the 2006-2010 camry hybrid in City driving. I rented a Prius on a recent trip, and across a lot of different conditions averaged ~31kmpl. To add to it, the car had decent power on tap, and was very practical.

Toyota missed the bus on Electric, but their work on Hybrids & design will keep the money flowing in for a few years.

Toyota as a company was clear that they didn't want to overhaul their lineup and move majorly into the EV space. Their belief rests in Hybrids as the technology to power the future. EV will be just one of the options they might offer, so not sure if they have really missed the bus.

Toyota will be one of the few auto majors to offer a truly wide array of powertrains going forward.
