Maserati announces the end of its V8 | Now, only V6s & Electrics

Maserati has confirmed that it will stop production of its V8 engine by the end of this year. Although, there will be a few V8-powered models on sale in 2024, based on the inventory or a few customer vehicles awaiting delivery.

To celebrate the end of the V8s, whose history dates back to 1959 with the brand's 5000GT Coupe - Maserati will introduce two special edition models. This includes the Ghibli 334 Ultima & the Levante V8 Ultima. Both cars will be unveiled at the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed in July and will be powered by the same 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8, producing 572 BHP. The cars though, will get a number of cosmetic changes in terms of colours & trims, along with a few handling tweaks.

With the discontinuation of the V8, Maserati will be focussing on its new twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 engine, which already powers its Grecale Trofeo and MC20. The smaller V6 though, produces a higher power output than the outgoing V8 with 620 BHP.

Having said that, Maserati has also announced it will be going all-electric by 2030. The Italian car brand is working on introducing an electric version of all its models by the end of 2025, under the Folgore name.
