Facebook Marketplace no longer allows used car dealers to publish listings on the platform

According to media reports, from January 2023, Facebook Marketplace has stopped allowing authorised used car dealers from publishing their listings on the platform via the FB Business Page.

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has released an official statement that states they are just "changing how inventory is displayed in the future". Many industry specialists believe this is an attempt to push used car dealers towards the company's paid advertising platform. The new set of restrictions though, has led to mixed reactions among used car dealers. While some believe FB Marketplace is a must to reach a large number of potential customers, and are even ready to spend $1 million in Facebook Advertising. There are also a few dealers who feel the gains from the social media platform aren't too huge.

However, reports clarified that individual owners wanting to put up their cars for sale on the platform will not face any restrictions. This applies to any person-to-person listing, which will continue to be free.

Excellent! Especially here in the used car mafia in Bengaluru, where even slightly used cars and motorcycles cost brand new, putting laughable prices for cars in pitiable condition, multiple ads multiple prices etc will reduce, as they have to pay to post an ad and will be more believable. Owners who have good practices will not hesitate to pay the nominal fee as the customer would leave satisfied as the car is infact the same one they saw on the ad.

Welcoming news. Bangalore used car scene is anything but a joke at this point. 2022 Toyota models are being sold at the original purchase price citing long waiting periods and higher cost of newer models.

FB thinks used car dealers will pay? How naive! Most classifieds sites are already flooded with proxies of dealers pretending to be owners. They'll just make a bunch of fake accounts!

This may affect the big used car dealers, but will do nothing to stop the hundreds of smaller dealers posing as individuals.

Facebook should instead allow only one post in each categories. So, if a user wants to sell multiple products like cars, bikes, mobile phones, etc. ; then he or she can post it only once in each category.
This might to some extent reduce dealers spamming the marketplace.

Also, with so much technology in facebook's disposal, can't their AI detect similar posts and photos and block both of them?
This will keep dealers away from making multiple posts of a single vehicle using different profiles.
