Mercedes-AMG One is now the fastest production car around the Autodromo Nazionale Monza F1 track. The Mercedes-AMG One set a new production car lap record of 1:43.902, which is 11 seconds faster than the previous record holder, the 991.2 Porsche 911 GT3 RS.



What's more impressive, though, is how close the time is to an actual F1 car. Reports state that the AMG One is just 19.8 seconds slower than the fastest lap set by Red Bull's Sergio Perez during the 2022 Grand Prix, at 1:24.030.

The Mercedes-AMG One record run was done on a set of road-legal yet specifically-made Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R MO1 tyres and was driven by AMG factory racing driver Maro Engel.

The hypercar comes powered by an F1-derived 1.6-litre turbocharged V6. The powertrain also consists of four electric motors, which together produce 1,063 BHP. Performance figures include an electronically-limited top speed of 325 km/h and a 0 - 100 km/h sprint time of 2.9 seconds.

I can’t help but chuckle at how this statement helps Porsche much more than Mercedes.

Another perspective to this is that the AMG One is 7 sec slower than a 2008 Scuderia Toro Rosso in extremely WET conditions

Perez's lap was a race lap and not the fastest one that weekend. LEC qualified P1 with a 1:20:161, which is nearly 4 sec quicker. Even in 2006, I remember Kimi outqualified MSC by 0.002 sec with a mid 1:21s in (fastest race lap was in 1:22s).

Upon checking old race/quali timings, a 1962 F1 car was doing similar lap times as the AMG One around Monza (the layout was also the same as today)

Wonder what the ultimate track weapon-the McMurty Spierling can do around Monza.
