Re: Toyota and Suzuki small sporty car coming with 1.0-litre engine

I am low-key hoping for the Maruti and Toyota to launch this in India too. People will end up buying it for the looks alone specially at the price tag mentioned.

Re: Toyota and Suzuki small sporty car coming with 1.0-litre engine

I really do hope that they launch this India with higher ground clearance.

Daihatsu had a good looking sports car in 1967 the P-5 before being purchased by Toyota.

It would be interesting it they can come up with a punchy small car 3.5/6 m, 3 door (2/4 seater) and sporty look. It will be like what Jimny / Polo GT / Thar offers in their respective segments. A lot of families in India have starting owning second cars and there is a segment which is willing experiment
Man it is imperative to understand what a sports car means in the first place. If you believe that a 120 hp car cannot be considered as a sports car, what about cars such as the legendary Toyota Cilica that pushed 125 bhp? Not a sports car? Also I am sorry but the polo GT won't stand a chance against this Toyota sports car at all, whether it be on a straight or down a corner. I mean, look at the figures, suspension set-up and WEIGHT. The polo GT is a family hatchback

But my gut feeling says that it will eventually come to India too. Look at Jimny, I know it's a tried and tested category car but it still kind of belongs to a niche of off-road enthusiasts given it isn't as intimidating as the Thar due to its size and looks; not attracting general city-dwellers.
I think the lightweight sports-car could come under Suzuki guise first and then the legend of Takumi Fujiwara will be reborned, in India! (No, not through illegal street racing)

And for people who think 120 bhp with 200 Nm are not worthwhile figures- weight, chassis and suspension setup make a world of difference. Also, power:weight ratio is the reason it will probably leave the warm hatches in our market in the dust in a straight line.

I am looking forward to it.

Re: Toyota and Suzuki small sporty car coming with 1.0-litre engine

My god, Toyota is making all the right moves! For a company that defined beige in the 2000s and most of the 2010s, this new crop of GR cars (this will very much be a GR) is a long-overdue tribute to enthusiasts.

This is very much a sports car. Sports cars are not about power, they are about architecture, handling, and a compromise on nearly every daily drive feature. My 640 hp daily drive is far less involving than my 300 hp sports car, though it's leagues ahead on track.

If it looks anything like the renders, it's probably going to be a bigger hit than the original MX-5 / Miata was. I can't wait to get my hands on one.

For people wondering what this car will actually do, Noriyaro has put up a vid featuring Suzuki Cappuccino

Suzuki's sports car takes shape, equipped with 1.3l turbo and a price of ~ 3 million yen.

Toyota + Daihatsu + Suzuki's joint development plan is steadily progressing, approaching the contents of the cappuccino revival!
The exterior design is expected to retain the appearance of a cappuccino. It should feel fresh even for the younger generation of car lovers.

Quote:
This 1.3-liter turbo is a downsized version of the 1.6-liter turbo used in the GR Yaris and GR Corolla, and is expected to have specs of around 150ps/22.5kgm.

It is supposed to be an open two-seater sport with a length of 4,000 mm × a width of around 1,700 to 1,730 mm, but there is a possibility that it will adopt some new devices, just as the former cappuccino has a removable roof that has four roofs: a hardtop, a T-bar roof, a targa top, and a fully open roof.

2027 Suzuki Cappuccino Roadster coming for Mazda MX-5.

Daihatsu, Suzuki, and Toyota are reportedly collaborating on ICE-powered, two-seater RWD sports cars.

- Suzuki is believed to be working on a new Cappuccino roadster with a 1.3L turbo and RWD.
- The model is expected to be a sibling to the upcoming Daihatsu Copen and Toyota S-FR.
- A debut is rumored for late 2026, though Suzuki has yet to provide any specific details.

More importantly, it also aligns closely with the Mazda MX-5 ND, which measures 3,915 mm (154.1 inches) in length, 1,730 mm (68.1 inches) in width, and 1,235 mm (48.6 inches) in height, with a 2,310 mm (90.9 inches) wheelbase.
Quote:
Reports suggest the roadster could be powered by a Toyota-sourced turbocharged 1.3-liter three-cylinder, delivering between 120 and 150 horsepower. An alternative option could be a naturally aspirated 1.6-liter four-cylinder, offering more grunt. Power will be sent to the rear wheels, with both automatic and manual transmissions likely on the table.
If the Suzuki-Toyota-Daihatsu partnership delivers, the result could be a trio of fun, lightweight roadsters to challenge the MX-5’s dominance.
