Toyota unveils the new Grand Highlander crossover Toyota has unveiled the new Grand Highlander 3-row crossover at the Chicago Auto Show. While given the ‘Highlander’ badge, the new Grand Highlander does get quite a few changes. Apart from a redesigned body, the rear suspension has also been changed for better interior packaging and ride quality. Additionally, the Grand Highlander also gets the option of Toyota’s ‘Hybrid Max’ powertrain first seen on the new Crown, which produces 362hp and 542Nm. This powertrain utilises a 2.4L four-pot engine mated to two electric motors.
The new Grand Highlander also has a very premium, almost Lexus-esque interior. The top of the line trim level is equipped with features such as a digital rear view mirror, head-up display, 12.3 inch digital instrument cluster, 12.3 inch touchscreen infotainment system, heated and ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated rear seats (the latter of which is exclusive to the Grand Highlander), ADAS features such as adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking and lane-keeping assist, and other safety features such as a 360-degree parking camera and a blind spot monitoring system with a rear cross-traffic alert.
Apart from the Hybrid Max powertrain, Toyota will also offer the Grand Highlander with a less powerful hybrid option and a regular turbo-four. While prices aren’t out yet, the new Grand Highlander will spot in between the regular Highlander and Sequoia, and will be offered in three trims: the XLE, Limited and Platinum.
It is yet to be seen whether Toyota will export these outside the USA, but this would be a smart launch in India if brought here.
