Replying only to the above note:

The entire generation who grew up just around and after WW2, were only too well aware of the name of Mitsubishi.

This is because Mitsubishi made the powerful and successful Zero fighter planes, which were used for attack as well as interceptor duties.

This is especially true of the children and families of those who served in the armed forces of the USA, UK, ANZAC, India, Rhodesia, South Africa etc and had done duty in the Asia-Pacific theatre of War, which included the far side Pacific and almost all of Asia India, Burma, China, Singapore, Brunei, Malaya as it was called then, Indonesia, Thailand,

HongKong, Taiwan, Timor, Papua New Guinea, Darwin Australia, Oceania and the rest of Asia, the Indian Ocean, Straits of Singapore and Malaya, South China Sea etc all the way up to Korea and the Philippines and Okinawa (Japan) and Midway Island and Hawaii (Pearl Harbour).

BYD is the company in news for all the right reasons!

BYD presents the YangWang U7, a luxury sedan with 4 electric motors and more than 1,000 hp of power.

Chinese group BYD has unveiled the first sedan from its new luxury brand YangWang, the U7. This model sits on the e⁴ platform, which is characterized by four electric motors (one for each wheel); therefore, it will exceed 1,000 hp (750 kW) of combined power, as is already the case with the U8 off-roader and the U9 hypercar.

Its aesthetics follow the design language of its siblings, with large C-shaped light clusters and continuous pilots. We also can't fail to mention the sleek black roof in contrast to the rest of the bodywork and the shark-fin-shaped C-pillar. The wheels, on the other hand, have a generous diameter of 21 inches.

Previous leaks indicated that it would be the most aerodynamic car on the market thanks to its coefficient of 0.195, a point that has not yet been confirmed by the company. As can be seen, it will have retractable door handles, an active spoiler and diffuser; In addition, as an option, it will offer digital rear-view mirrors through cameras.

It is not yet clear whether it will be a pure electric car or if, like the U8, it will have an internal combustion engine as a range extender. Its price will be around one million yuan (127,374 euros at the exchange rate), something on the other hand expected if we take into account that it is a flagship in the F segment.

Re: BYD launches new luxury EV brand YangWang; To rival Mercedes-Benz

BYD is rushing their luxury car division. They are relatively unestablished in the international car scene, as BYD sold over half a million cars in Europe last year, and the sales have skyrocketed in two years. The cars sold are unproven in long-term use and consist of cars like Han,Tang, and Seal, which are very complex cars costing over €50,000.

The only "affordable" cars sold in Europe by BYD are the Dolphin and Atto 3, which start at €28,000.

For example,Toyota exported its first cars in 1956 and created Lexus in 1989. They did not start out with complex cars but mostly imported very basic cars to Europe and America initially, and then started selling executive cars once they had properly established themselves.*

This is the case with every car company in Asia, like Hyundai, which created the Genesis 30 years after its first import to Europe. Nissan created INFINITI after 56 years of selling cars. Honda perceived Acura after almost 40 years, and so on.

While this was indeed the strategy adopted by those companies in those times, there is nothing to say that it is the ‘right’ strategy. The world was a xenophobic jingoistic place then, having just come out of war and economic tribulation. Also racial stereotyping and disrespect were commonplace.

Today it is a different world. Freely available instant digital information. Plenty of resources to research. Live experiences to draw on and so on. Truly the ‘Global Village’.

So today the consumer can actually evaluate a product on its own merit and compare like for like in terms of features and price and overall value etc.

And as Ive remarked earlier, why should we remain as prisoners of the antiquated, irrelevant, thought-process which dictates that ‘Western Automakers’ are definitive and superior and therefore, the rest of the world should always bow to them?

Yes we can love Porsche and Mercedes and Alfa Romeo and all for their Storied Past and History and Design and innovation in their time.

Equally, we should wholeheartedly appreciate BYD and YangWang and Nio and MG and Hyundai and Kia and Mahindra and Tata and all for what they are doing today!

Disruption on this scale will only benefit the consumer. And this, we should all always Hail!
