McLaren partners with Lockheed Martin to design future supercars

McLaren Automotive is said to be teaming up with Lockheed Martin Skunk Works to find new ways of designing supercars in the future.

While no details have been completely revealed yet, the collaboration is said to be working on morphing the aerospace company's design software into something that can be applied to supercars. The collaboration with Lockheed should help McLaren "push the boundaries and find new disruptive solutions to making the ultimate supercars." Darren Goddard, CTO, of McLaren, stated that their collaboration with Lockheed Martin Skunk Works is a natural fit for the brand and should benefit customers in the long term.

Over the years, Lockheed Martin Skunk Works have produced some of the best fighter jets, including the F-22 Raptor, F-35 Lightning II Stealth Fighter and the U-2 Spy Plane. The company is also responsible for the Darkstar - a conceptual hypersonic jet, which appeared in the movie Top Gun: Maverick. Lockheed Martin also produced the SR-71 Blackbird, which currently holds the world absolute speed record at 2,193 mph (match 3.3)

McLaren themselves have had their share of super fast cars over the years. The most popular is the McLaren F1 which held the world record with a top speed of 240.1 mph for many years.

Re: McLaren partners with Lockheed Martin to design future supercars

This seems to be more like a marketing stunt rather than technical as they are already pioneers in areas like carbon composite tech (first to use in F1), advanced electronics (all top F1 teams use their electronic components). The McLaren Speedtail is a testimony of aerodynamic efficiency and ultimate performance.

Unless, they are designing the ultimate Canonball run supercar which can evade detection by the police during a record breaking run
