Re: Best selling cars worldwide | The denser the population, the smaller the car I don't doubt the numbers, which are probably pulled from the official databases but this doesn't paint a correct picture of the market IMHO.
Examples :
- Just look at the top 25 cars from our October sales and see the difference. If the number 1 or 2 is edging across 5-6 cars behind it by 2-300 cars in a 15000+ cars/month number, its miniscule and insignificant if we are to take these numbers to form an opinion.
- The difference in the automotive landscape between UAE and Saudi Arabia isn't that of the Land Cruiser and the Accent. I would expect them to be very similar.
- Like pointed earlier the idea of population density to car size doesn't hold good in some cases in this infographic itself.
I checked their website and the time period is mentioned as "extended periods of time". Numbers are supposed to be specific
IMO they've generalized a lot but they're also not alone. Capturing the data over a year, for the top 10-15 cars, split in to segments and usage(private/commercial) would bring us closer to an accurate representation but still far from it though.
Every country/market would have their own unique patterns which could spike the numbers like say the UAE taxi operators announcing going all hybrid would suddenly spike the sales of the Camry Hybrid for that year.
