I have just bought a pre-loved BMW 620D GT which is around 4 years old and out of warranty in the UK. It has done 49500 miles till now. I need some advice:

1. Shall I buy a warranty pack for my car?
1.1. BMW UK is offering me a warranty pack for £1200 per annum
1.2. Halfords and other companies are offering around £700 per annum

2. Shall I buy a service package
1.1. BMW is offering around£1100 for 2 services (2 years)
1.2. Halfords is offering for around £500 for 2services

I intend keeping the car for 2 years before I upgrade.

You need to do some basic calculations. How much mileage are you going to clock in the next two years. Next check with BMW what kind of services will be required and what the expected cost would be. Not quite sure on the 6 series but as you go towards 60-75k miles you might have cost such as camshaft belt.

I would never ever let any Halford guy anywhere near my car, let alone a highly complex car such as the BMW 6 series.

I would try to find a reliable garages that specialises in these cars. The various BMW UK forums should be able to guide you there. BMW services are very good, but very expensive. Good, specialist aftermarket parties are often better and offer far more competitive pricing.

Thanks; I will run up probably 12k miles per year give or take a few. I will try and get to a BMW dealership and see what they say.

I get your point about Halfords. I will look out for other local garages.

I would strongly advice against Halfords. There are dedicated BMW garages who can take care of regular services. But for Warranty i would suggest to go with BMW warranty as these cars can be expensive to maintain. I have a warranty from RSA but my BMW is more than 8 years old.
