The 992 GT3 RS has arrived!

Well, the new GT3 RS is here and it is indeed "The ultimate version of the ultimate version of the ultimate sportscar!" thanks to Porsche GT specialist Andreas Preuninger's incredible team

https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/2022...ere-29177.html

More power from the 4.0 flat-6:
Quote:
The 4.0-litre high-revving naturally aspirated engine has been further optimised compared with the 911 GT3. The increase in power to 386 kW (525 PS) is achieved primarily via new camshafts with modified cam profiles. The single-throttle intake system and the rigid valve drive are derived from motorsport. The seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) has a shorter overall gear ratio than the 911 GT3. Air intakes on the underbody ensure that the transmission can withstand even extreme loads during frequent use on track. The 911 GT3 RS accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and reaches a top speed of 296 km/h in seventh gear.
Lighter (comparatively) given all the aero paraphernalia:
Quote:
Intelligent lightweight construction has been a basic principle of all RS models ever since the legendary 911 Carrera RS 2.7. Thanks to an array of lightweight construction measures such as the extensive use of CFRP, the 911 GT3 RS weighs in at only 1,450 kg (kerb weight according to DIN) despite many larger components. The doors, front wings, roof and front lid, for example, are made from CFRP. Lightweight CFRP is also used in the interior, for example in the standard full bucket seats.
Central radiator concept and active aero including DRS!:
Quote:
The basis for a significant performance boost is the concept of a central radiator – an idea that was first used in the Le Mans class-winning 911 RSR and subsequently in the 911 GT3 R. Instead of the three-radiator layout seen in previous cars, the new 911 GT3 RS relies on a large, angled centre radiator in the car’s nose, positioned where the luggage compartment is located on other 911 models. This has made it possible to use the space freed up on the sides to integrate active aerodynamic elements.

Continuously adjustable wing elements in the front and on the two-part rear wing, in combination with a number of other aerodynamic measures, provide 409 kg of total downforce at 200 km/h. This means that the new 911 GT3 RS generates twice as much downforce as its 991.2-generation predecessor and three times as much as a current 911 GT3. At 285 km/h, total downforce is 860 kg.

A drag reduction system (DRS) is fitted in a production Porsche for the first time. To achieve low drag and higher speeds on straight sections of the track, the DRS allows the wings to be flattened out at the push of a button, within a specific operating range. The airbrake function is activated during emergency braking at high speeds: the wing elements at the front and rear are set to maximum, creating an aerodynamic deceleration effect that significantly supports the wheel brakes.

Re: The 992 GT3 RS has arrived!

The general criterion for being “given the opportunity” to buy one of these is ownership of another 991 GT3 RS.

However this car is so exclusive it isn’t even available even for most owners of 991 GT3 RS’s abroad. No doubt it will sell for almost double the price once the production run is over.

Given its limited run, in all probability Porsche won’t be bringing this to India so the 1 or 2 who may have bought it wont get the chance to buy one here.

This is the biggest rear spoiler on a road going Porsche yet. That could be a good or bad thing depending on the quantum of boy racer DNA still left in you.

How is it the "ultimate version of the ultimate version of the ultimate sports car", when the fastest, sportiest, and the ultimate Porsche is my all-time favourite 911 Turbo S with its 3.8L Turbo engine putting out 650hp and 800nm driving all 4 wheels with 8-speed PDK transmission?

It's referred to as the ultimate version because it's NA and RWD. That makes it more special than the turbo AWD however faster it may be.

For some people, experience and drama far outweighs outright performance. The GT3 RS is meant for such folks who happen to have a lot of dough sitting around.

It depends on perspective, both the vehicles are meant for wildly different applications! Even though I am a hardcore GT2 RS person, the GT3 is still the essence of the purest 911.

The 911 turbo, though very quick and far more usable than the GT3 RS, will always be the softer twin-turbo 'cushy' 911. The GT3 is meant for slaying lap times on any track, while the turbo is more of a 'GT' car meant to cover great distances comfortably.

It's like Andreas Preuninger said during the launch "You might get sneered at if you drive the GT3 RS on road in certain countries."

Summary:
The Ultimate Sportscar (for Porsche lovers ): The 911
The Ultimate version of the 911: The GT3
The Ultimate version of the GT3: The GT3 RS
(though with the advent of additional variants like the GTS, GT3 Touring, Sport Classis etc., the list is quite different for different people)

However, this might change when the mighty GT2 RS comes out....at least for me!

It is already launched in India at 3.25 crores and its not a limited production run. But, considering the demand getting a build slot allocated is a real challenge.

The GT3 achieves more (faster around a track) with less (power). The mechanical grip this thing generates is so huge that it went faster around the Nurburgring than a 918 Spyder. One can only imagine what the RS numbers will be like.

Re: The 992 GT3 RS has arrived!

This incredible machine has now smashed the Nurburgring time of the GT3 by over 10 sec and quicker than the legendary 918 Spyder by 13 sec!

Quote:
The new Porsche 911 GT3 RS has completed the 20.8-kilometre Nordschleife of the Nürburgring in 6:49.328 minutes – 10.6 seconds faster than the current 911 GT3. Behind the wheel was Porsche brand ambassador Jörg Bergmeister, who was in-tensely involved in the development of the new flagship of the 911 series.
Quote:
“Today the 911 GT3 RS delivered what it had already promised at first glance – absolute excellence on the racetrack,” says Andreas Preuninger

Before the GT3 RS came along, the leaderboard for the top five fastest production cars was as follows: Porsche 911 GT2 RS MR (6:38.835), Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series (6:43.616), Lamborghini Aventador SVJ LP770-4 (6:44.97), Porsche 911 GT2 RS (6:47.25) and the Lamborghini Huracan Performante LP640-4 with a time of 6:52.01.
