Hyundai confirms development of affordable entry-level EV for the European market

According to a media report, Hyundai Motor Europe's marketing head Andreas Hofmann has confirmed that the automaker is developing an affordable entry-level EV for the European market.

Reports state that the upcoming affordable EV from Hyundai will be priced at around 20,000 euros. Once launched, the entry-level EV offering will rival the likes of Skoda, Volkswagen & Cupra in the European market. The plan to develop a small EV comes despite Hofmann stating that it is difficult to develop small EVs due to packaging constraints and the fact that it is hard to make a profit from the same.

While details of the upcoming entry-level Hyundai EV are scarce, it is expected to be part of the carmaker's Ioniq range. The decision to develop a small electric car is to help Hyundai expand its EV footprint in Europe.

Apart from the small EV, Hyundai is also focussing on its premium models, especially the flagship Ioniq 7 SUV. The upcoming EVs from Hyundai are part of its strategy to introduce 11 zero-emission models in the European market before the end of the decade.
