Hyundai N division unveils two concepts including a performance EV & a hydrogen-powered sports car

Hyundai recently held its 'N Day', wherein the brand's performance division unveiled a couple of concepts to showcase its direction for the future. As part of the N Day, Hyundai unveiled the RN22e - an electric sports car concept based on their recently unveiled Ioniq 6 and the N Vision 74 - a hydrogen-powered sports car concept.

Starting with the Hyundai RN22e, the electric sports car concept is clearly based on the brand's Ioniq 6 with the e-GMP architecture underneath. The RN22e, though, comes with a host of cosmetic updates, including wider fenders, a front splitter and a large rear wing. The Hyundai RN22e comes with dual-electric motors paired with a 77.4 kWh battery pack. The electric powertrain produces 577 BHP and 740 Nm, which is identical to the Kia EV6 GT.

Apart from the cosmetic upgrades and the larger powertrain, Hyundai is also testing new technologies on the RN22e. This includes using regenerative braking to adjust the car's handling, N Sound+ which applies artificial sound and vibrations to the chassis and much more. In terms of mechanicals, the Hyundai RN22e comes with a limited-slip differential, a dual-clutch which allows torque vectoring and a larger brake setup.

Moving to the Hyundai N Vision 74, a hydrogen fuel cell powered sports car concept. The Vision 74 borrows inspiration from Hyundai's 1974 Pony Coupe concept, sharing similar design cues with crisp lines and sharp corners. The new concept, however, also comes with modern design elements such as pixel-style lights and multiple other aerodynamic modifications.

The Hyundai N Vision 74 comes with a 62.4 kWh battery pack, as well as a 4.2 kg hydrogen fuel tank with an 85 kW fuel cell. The battery and the fuel cell power two electric motors, one on each rear wheel. The electric powertrain produces a combined output of 670 BHP and 900 Nm. Hyundai estimates the N Vision 74 will have a range of 373 miles (600 km).

Apart from the two concepts unveiled, Hyundai also confirmed the Ioniq 5 N, with its global launch scheduled to take place sometime in 2023.

The second car has something of an "Initial D" vibe going on and I love it.

I also love how Hyundai and Kia designs are distinct and out of the box (while admitting the fact that they are polarising). VAG really needs to start copying Hyundai's homework. Their Electric cars look forgettable, to put it mildly.

Hyundai has made somewhat of a habit out of churning out production versions being faithful to the concepts, especially with the Ioniq 5&6.

I really hope it pans out here as well, and somehow they gather the courage to offer these products here (imma dream on..).

Hyundai has really nailed the designs of their EVs recently. The pixelated headlights are just wow!

Good to see them innovating in the design front, as earlier a lot of their cars had been inspired from the Mercs.

Voah!!! Hyundai is really hitting it out with their retro concepts.

Can't wait to see the production version, sans the rear spoiler and aggressive body bits. Also happy to see them giving company to Toyota and not abandoning the hydrogen FCEV development. We really need to explore more options here than just blindly foloowing the BEV bandwagon.
