Next-gen Toyota Yaris caught testing in Thailand

New generation Toyota Yaris (D92A project) spied testing. Will have strong Hybrid configuration.

Will it come to India? Or maybe at least the Powertrain could be India bound in Maruti's Ciaz?

New Yaris global debut by August 2022
Will sit on modular DNGA platform
Expected to come with petrol-hybrid powertrain option (1.5-litre petrol and 1.0-litre petrol engines.)

Quote:
In practice, it is larger and simpler than the Yaris sold in Europe and Japan, whose most recent generation was launched two years ago.

I doubt it will get relaunched given the fact that the Yaris brand never met rather was probably never even near any sales targets set by Toyota. It was just a functional car that lacked any chutzpah and priced at the typical Toyota prices. Maybe it is the engine but are the current crop of Suzuki engines beyond their shelf-life? MSIL already has engines of similar capacity on duty today.

Doubtful whether this would come to India.

Ofcourse, even Toyota must know that the Yaris in India was already a decade old car. The upcoming car will definitely be a good model with Asia specific characteristics that will rival the City for good. Coupled with a 1.5l hybrid this would be a good one.

Though, Toyota couldn't be bothered as the D22 is enough for them and the Yaris name is sadly a flop in the Indian market.

MSIL's dualjet version of K10, K12 and K15 are new and probably will serve till the end of IC engine era.

D92A Toyota Yaris Vios (D92A), a baby Camry with a 1.5L 3-cylinder NA hybrid variant of the GR Yaris' engine.

Under the Toyota Motor group’s new structure, a new Toyota-Daihatsu internal company called Emerging Market Car Company (EMCC) will be responsible developing of compact cars for emerging markets.

From the silhouette of the heavily camouflaged prototype undergoing road trials , the all-new 2022 Toyota Vios will have a Camry-like front-end styling, while the side profile has a rather fastback character, almost like the Honda Civic FE.
Quote:
At its global debut, which rumoured to be around August 2022 in Thailand, the D92 all-new generation Toyota Vios is expected to be offered with just a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder engine, to comply with Thailand’s Eco Car regulations for lower excise tax.
A naturally aspirated 1.5-litre 4-cylinder will still be offered for other markets.

Re: Next-gen Toyota Yaris caught testing in Thailand

The Yaris was a car that I considered to be a sensible sedan had I not stayed for longer abroad. I found the combination of 3 pointed seatbelts for all passengers, 7 SRS Airbags (Standard across the variants when initially launched), all wheel disc brakes on the higher variants all very temping as a safe and compact sedan. Yes, the 1.5l engine may not have the oomph to match the segment leaders but given the fact that any speed above 70 Kmph on Indian roads is akin to funambulism, it really didn't matter at the time.

I do however feel that this sedan might only do well in our market if they name it VIOS. The name "YARIS" might put off potential buyers from even considering the car as they might have flashbacks of the older (read recently discontinued) YARIS sedan.

If they bring the hatch back variant with fancy cosmetic add-ons and bright colours with a decently powerful engine to boot, name it "GR line" and advertise it as a mango man's GR Sport, it might give the i20 N-line a run for its money

Re: Next-gen Toyota Yaris caught testing in Thailand

So they really are going to style it as a mini- Camry. Rear quarter windows, headlights pushed to the sides to make it look wider. And the interiors are also new age Toyotas. And since this is developed for the developing part of Asia (West,South,Southeast), rear seat comfort would be a priority. Wonder which is that 1.5l 4 cylinder hybrid.

Looking at the VAG twins and City sales figures, there is definitely a market for sedans, but we can't expect Toyota to bring any.

But. Speculation from my side. Ciaz has a market. Yes, fleet and government orders mostly, but there is one. Eventhough Maruti isn't shy to sell a model for 30+ years, times have changed. Yet, there is no news or rumours for a Ciaz replacement. And this is Toyotas cheapest sedan globally. So maybe this one would be a future Toyota-Suzuki rebadge model. We may get it after 2-3 years, once the market has cooled down (or never), but I get a feeling this would definitely be sold by Suzuki in some markets. Behold the future Maruti Kizashi.... Or the Toyota Altis Hyrolla.

This looks fabulous. I hope that a burst of patriotism makes Mr Kirloskar think about bringing it to our shores.
