A million mile Volvo

I was pleasantly surprised to read this - A Volvo which ran a million miles before Volvo US and the dealer which sold the original 740 decided to gift the owner with a new S60. I have heard about million mile Toyotas, never expected an European sedan to reach this milestone.

What is more, it doesn't seem to be the first Volvo to get into the million mile club!

So am I to assume a Volvo product like S60 in India is actually more reliable and VFM in the long run than the A4s and C-Class(es)!

re: A million mile Volvo

Older Volvos were built to very high standards by the Swedes and such high mileage examples were never a surprise to anyone. I am a massive fan of the way the P1800 looks too.

However, I would not make any statements on the reliability of current Volvos based on the track record these cars have established. It's like saying the Mercedes W124 was a very reliable car that could clock 4-5L km easily on an average, so a modern day E-class should also be more reliable than competition. Times change, companies undergo massive transformations, engineering tactics and ethics change.

Mercedes was taken over by Daimler who had different ideas for the company. Volvo has also been taken over by Geely. I am not saying Geely "will" compulsorily cut costs or sacrifice on engineering finesse, but it's just that one needs to wait and watch.

Volvos of today are far more complex electronically and even mechanically as compared to their ancestors. Only time will tell how their reliability pans out in comparison to competition.
