Re: Major international businesses pull out of Russia

Historically, post war reconstruction has always led to an economic boom. But yes the tragedy of lives lost and careers/families broken breaks my heart. And all this, just to satiate the whims of a Dictator. Hope better sense prevails soon. On topic, International businesses who pulled out may return to the plum market and Russia already has alternatives in place as per CNN

Ironical, isn’t it ? The prime reason for the invasion according to Putin and his supporters is that he wants to protect the citizens and the country from the NATO forces and in doing so, he has just pushed his own country into a misery !!

Already, according to government sources in Russia, food rationing has started for the citizens. Large scale arrests are happening and anti war cry is getting louder by the day. All this after the whole world went through a Pandemic which is still raging in some form or the other. The large scale sanctions are going to cripple the country further down. What a pity !!

Re: Major international businesses pull out of Russia

All this provides a good case study for the regime in China. What to expect if they go on an expansionist strategy.

The mutual dependency of the communist states will somewhat negate the sanctions. If anything China, when they decide to expand will be harder to control as the world's dependency on China is very high and not easily curtailed.

The amount of negative publicity India has received due to its negative stand is stunning. India has used the presence of Russia and friendship with Russia for many decades during the tough years post-independence.

India will obviously take a stand against China if they were to take over Taiwan or the South China Sea.

Re: Major international businesses pull out of Russia

There's another fundamental reason, in addition to the geo-political reasons mentioned above. And that is , the SWIFT Ban.
Without SWIFT, it is not possible to repatriate payments out of Russia for MNCs.

Interesting Forbes article on what it means for Russia /companies operating there in the short term and how it could potentially change the financial landscape in the future

The company I work for is a German company, with its Russia Operations being its largest store network. At the moment its been stated that we will not pull out of Russia, I wonder how they would continue though, especially with the SWIFT ban

None of this makes any difference to the Russians.

They will soon be world leaders in streaming services after launching their own home grown channel, Nyetflix.

After this, they will take the lead in F&B with their all new chain of coffee kiosks, Tsarbucks.

These 2 giant conglomerates will ensure that the country doesn't feel the pinch of all these corporations deserting it.

Yes, you are right about that, especially for the U.S. market. Volvo is planning to bring as many as 5 EVs there and by 2025 its portfolio will comprise of PHEVs and EVs both having 50% share each. Add to that Volvo's aggressive push towards PHEVs and EVs leaves it with Europe and U.S. as their biggest market. That said, despite being owned by Geely Volvo has been given free hand (for the most part) for their operations similar to JLR.

Re: Major international businesses pull out of Russia

All Big 4 accounting firms have also exited Russia - Deloitte, EY, KPMG, PwC. They are restructuring operations else they wont win any US govt contracts. I would guess same for all major consulting firms.

The Russian firm wil have to sever all ties with the brand or be shut down.

Shell drops Russia oil supply after coming under fire for buying it on the cheap.

Shell announces intent to withdraw from Russian oil and gas.

Quote:
Shell said it will stop buying Russian crude on the spot market and will not renew its term contracts, unless directed by governments to do otherwise. It also said it will change its crude oil supply chain to remove Russian volumes, though this could take some weeks, and will lead to reduced throughput at some of its refineries.

250 Companies Have Pulled Out of Russia Since Invasion.

Western brands are vanishing from the Russian market at an eye-watering speed.

Quote:
The Kremlin has also announced its own set of ultra-restrictive measures — such as a ban on transferring foreign currency out of the country — that have further cratered the country’s business climate. Moscow has also sought to frustrate the exodus, telling stock market brokers to reject sell orders from foreign clients when the Russian stock markets open back up for trading, and has said it will block the ability of private investors to exit their stakes in Russian firms.

Re: Major international businesses pull out of Russia

Hilarious how the 'Western' media nexus is playing this out.

Is Russia the only country to invade another one?

Just find out the number of times the more so called 'Civilized Western Nations' have done it so themselves.

This invasion is a direct result of a power vacuum in retard'stan.

Re: Major international businesses pull out of Russia

Nothing will happen, after the initial hoopla, things will return to normal. Ukraine will be left to fend for itself. Europe cannot survive economically the effect of gas and petroleum high prices. Russia will still stand its ground. US will be as usual diplomatic as it realises it cannot take Russia head-on like Iraq or Vietnam or Afghanistan. Russia will have all brands back in a few months or even earlier. It's psychological war at play.

Impressive how they all pulled out when they get offended by a country at war. Or is all this just a PR campaign ? Will most of them open again after the pressure reduces ?
