Jeep is selling the highly profitable compass in quiet healthy numbers when compared to its in segment competitors but in terms of overall market share the numbers are on a lower side.
I believe that they do really want into tap into the growing market of compact and mid-size suv which are now dominated by the Korean twins.
If Jeep can launch the products within a year and price it competitively then there will be a lot of takers considering the aspirational value of the jeep brand.

Is this even in consideration for India? There was talk of Renegade for a few years, till it died down. Now this. Do we know if Stellantis India plans to bring this into India in 2023, if at all?

Jeep is apparently making huge profits on Compass. Atleast the pricing suggests so.

Moreover by regularly revising compass prices, they are creating a space for a Creta competitor. If they intend to do so, now is the time with car prices/ demand at all time high. There are no signs of recession or slowdown.

Even Mahindra has priced ScorpioN at regular price, not so disruptive as expected. Still see the bookings they gathered.

Yes, the CUV is India bound (ICE variant to start with). Renegade was never a contention for the Indian market, though a lot of hype in the Indian media was created.

There is no hard segmentation rule based on length except 4m and sub-4m segments due to taxation differences. Usually a combination of all factors - and even public perception that defines a segment.

And what is Tucson segment? By the same criteria you define for Compass - isn't Tucson just an overpriced entrant in XUV 7OO 5L / Harrier / Hector segment? And an extremely overpriced one at that due to CKD? Compare even top end features like ADAS, or engine and performance specs, etc and the XUV 7OO compares with the Tucson in almost every way. But would you place them in same segments?

Tucson: 4630 mm
XUV 7OO: 4695mm
Harrier: 4598mm
Hector: 4655mm

The previous generation of the Tucson was 4475mm. The newer generation has grown for sure, but competes in the same segment internationally. The price difference in India is due to CKD taxation. Common scenario across brands that products grow in size from one generation to the other - mostly will happen to the Compass too in the next generation. The current generation is almost at the last years of its lifecycle and getting outdated especially when it comes to engine specs and lack of hybrid (some markets like ours)/pure EV models.

Coming back to the topic of the baby Jeep - I hope they don't dilute stuff to fit the segment standards for India. Hyundai/Kia has mastered the art of making nice top bodies on cheap platforms which look and feel good in the short term, but fail a longer term (personal experience). By forcing others to match them - we are essentially asking other companies to dilute their brand identity as well. (Example- Interior build quality downgrade with Skoda in Kushaq). End of the day we dont need every manufacrer to do a Hyundai/Kia on us!

Finally - the biggest factor is just that the customers are willing to pay the money asked by companies for their products, irrespective of which segment they are defined into!

The length was just thrown in as an example to start the discussion on what is the criteria for comparison. I would like to include engine power, features also into the list.

Unfortunately, I am still waiting for someone to lay down that criteria.

If public perception is also included then I rest my case. I was interested in objective criteria. Public perception is subjective in my opinion.

Having seen Jeep's pricing, this also would be exorbitantly priced - maybe a few lakhs below the Compass and way above the obvious rivals by size / power.

Jeep is a premium, import product in most countries (other than the USA & a few others) and they price it accordingly.

Taking advantage of the celebration of the Paris Motor Show 2022, the new Jeep Avenger has been presented in society. A small and very interesting electric SUV of which all the keys have been confirmed.


- It is the first in a long line of electric SUVs. It boasts design, technological equipment and, above all, solvent performance. Let's go into detail and review the most relevant features.

-The front features a slightly curved grille with seven slots. The grille connects directly with optical groups with LED technology.

- The Avenger has a ground clearance of 200 millimeters. The angle of attack is 20º while the starting angle is 32º. On the other hand, the ventral angle reaches 20º.

- The body can be painted in different colors. In addition, it sports a two-color finish. To all the customization options available during the configuration process we must add the more than 100 official accessories available.

- It is a digital and connected car. It is enough to settle in the driving position. It equips a digital instrument cluster whose size is 7 or 10.25 inches depending on the version. The "nerve center" is a 10.25-inch touchscreen. A key component to manage the infotainment system. The multimedia system is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

- the Avenger has unique equipment in its segment, such as leather-trimmed seats with electric adjustments and massage function, the multi-coloured ambient lighting system and the sunroof.

-Scattered throughout the cabin there are several holes to store objects. At the front alone there are 34 litres of storage space. In addition, we must bear in mind that the trunk covers a cargo volume of 380 liters, a figure that places it above the average of its category.


-As for the list of driver assistance systems, it is very broad. Among other technologies, it has adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assistant, traffic sign recognition, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, driver drowsiness detector and blind spot monitoring.

-The "heart" of the Avenger is a new 54 kWh lithium-ion battery made up of 17 modules and 102 cells. Its main objective is to power a 115 kW (156 hp) engine and 260 Nm of maximum torque.


-the battery, which is located under the floor of the cabin, is produced by Stellantis and that the electric motor is the first launched by Emotors, a joint venture of Stellantis and Nidec Leroy-Somer Holding. The range reaches 400 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle. A figure that increases to 500 km if we attend exclusively to the urban cycle.
