Toyota USA teases the first ever GR Corolla Hatch

Toyota USA teased the GR Corolla with a picture, asking viewers to “keep guessing”.

Toyota USA teases the first ever GR Corolla Hatch-55525d2aa24245abbaf158fedb3ef668.jpeg

The Easter Eggs that could be spotted are:

1:- G:16 has been mentioned on the instrument cluster where time should’ve been present. G-16 is the engine that Toyota has made for the GR Yaris (G16E-GTS turbo I3), very likely will be used in the GR Corolla as well.

2:- At the far right corner one can see a car being tested in camouflage, which is the GR Corolla hatch most likely.

3:- 2 and 68 is visible on the climate control, the GR Yaris pumps out 268hp out of its 1.6L 3cyl turbo Petrol engine

4:- The Trip A reading reads as 601.6, 6016 is an alloy of aluminium. The GR Yaris has parts made out of aluminium like the hood, back door, and door panels.

5:- GR Four written on the map visible on the infotainment screen, again the GR Yaris uses the same AWD system.

At first I was like, "An automatic transmission lever and electronic parking brake???"

And then, started reading the easter eggs in detail.

Then again. Even if the GR Corolla is practical than the GR Yaris, we in India can only see and salivate.

Also one more easter egg : the red container says NA G16 GR four, the engine that makes 268hp powering GR Corolla.

I thought NA for Naturally Aspirated but its a turbo engine, so NA must stand for North America. People were pissed GR Yaris isn't coming to US but this should settle that storm to some extent I guess.

Re: Toyota USA teases the first ever GR Corolla Hatch

Its an SUV/truck market here, as it happens; even the gas price hikes don't seem to have had much impact on that trend, and if anything, demand continues to rise for this market.

The Corolla, as with other few sedans still lingering around in the US market, for really no fault of their own, seem to have been relegated to near irrelevancy here. A buddy found it hard-pressed to have any Toyota dealer willing to take back his leased Camry earlier this year - he was fortunately able to sell it to a direct customer.

Re: Toyota USA teases the first ever GR Corolla Hatch

This will nicely fill the space being vacated by the WRX STI. Sure, not many of these will be sold but I am sure Toyota isn't expecting bumper sales from it either. Even with the GR86, they manage to sell roughly a 1000 every month (https://carfigures.com/us-market-brand/toyota/gr86) which is a RWD.

Good point. In saying that, the limited numbers that will be produced will find a lot of takers, as is the case with the Yaris GR. There is always a market for a hot hatch at a good price.

Re: Toyota USA teases the first ever GR Corolla Hatch

This is it. Toyota GR Corolla before its unveil: 300 hp 1.6L turbo three-pot, manual only, widebody, novel triple exhausts

- 300 PS, 6MT, AWD

- Engine tuned to make 300 PS/370 Nm
- 6-speed manual and AWD

Toyota GR Corolla gets the GR Yaris’ 1.6-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, but fettled to output 300 PS and 370 Nm – a healthy 39 PS and 10 Nm increase over the GR Yaris.

Also lifted over from the GR Yaris is the 6-speed manual transmission and the GR-Four all-wheel drive system, which is able to distribute power from 50/50 up to 30/70 front to rear based on selected driving mode.

Inside, there’s a GR leather-trimmed steering wheel, unique gauge cluster, and GR-embroidered seats.

There will be a Toyota GR Corolla Launch Edition that adds a forged carbon-fibre roof, vented hood, matte-black 18-inch wheels, unique seats, and most importantly, front and rear Torsion limited-slip differential.

Re: Toyota USA teases the first ever GR Corolla Hatch

That's two steps in the right direction by moving away from the FWD setup and giving it an AWD setup. About time..... Although RWD would've been better.

What's really interesting is the Manual Transmission FINALLY! I'm sick of seeing more and more vehicles coming out with Automatics as if they think of us as some kind of losers who lack mind and body coordination. Manual is the right step forward.

But I'm sure it still has the 'current gen' (or as they futuristic) touchscreens and fake feeling digital controls and speedometers which obviously can never replace the beauty and feedback of the real analog controls and displays for true enthusiasts. I think 2010 more or less saw the end of true driver's cars. Even if such cars come out, they're gonna have all kinds of stupid electronic aids, fake electric steering having a lack of feel and the most popular 'e-brakes' with a button. What has the world come to? Do we really need these big displays inside our cars? If we can afford a car, I'm sure we can afford a TV at home, so a car can do with a good Audio system. Cars should be like cars, but that's just me. Still there's some hope at least with cars like this but it ain't coming to India, that's for sure.

Quote:
a turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder that develops an impressive 300 hp (224 kW / 304 PS) and 273 lb-ft (370 Nm) of torque.
Quote:
The engine is connected exclusively to a six-speed manual transmission and a GR-Four all-wheel drive system. Like on the GR Yaris, the system is adjustable and offers front/rear power splits of 60:40, 50:50, and 30:70. This means the car can be front biased, neutral, or rear biased at the twist of a knob.
GR Corolla rides on a beefed up version of the TNGA-C platform.

Quote:
on the performance front are 18-inch gloss black wheels that are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires. They’re backed up by a beefy braking system that features four-piston aluminum calipers, which grab onto ventilated and slotted front discs that measure 14 inches (356 mm). Out back, there are two-piston aluminum calipers and smaller 11.7-inch (297 mm) ventilated discs.
Quote:
Moving into the cabin, drivers will find a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster that features a tachometer as well as displays for turbo pressure, the current gear, and the selected all-wheel drive mode. It’s joined by a new 8-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia system, which offers cloud-based navigation as well as an Intelligent Assistant that responds to the “Hey Toyota” wake word.

Quote:
To celebrate the introduction of the GR Corolla, Toyota will offer a Circuit Edition that features a bulging hood with functional air vents. The model is also distinguished by a forged carbon fiber roof, which reduces weight and helps to lower the car’s center of gravity. Other highlights include a massive rear wing and red brake calipers.

Interior changes are more modest, but the Circuit Edition has Brin Naub suede and synthetic leather sport seats with red mesh inserts and red contrast stitching. Buyers will also find a shift knob bearing the signature of “Morizo,” which is the racing alias of Toyota President Akio Toyoda.

The Circuit Edition also comes better equipped as customers will find heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and an eight-speaker JBL premium audio system. They’re joined by an automatic climate control system and a wireless smartphone charger.
Quote:
Despite its aggressive nature, the GR Corolla puts safety front and center. As a result, it comes equipped with the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite of driver assistance systems that includes a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, and Lane Tracing Assist. The model also has Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Automatic High Beams, Road Sign Assist, and a Rear Seat Reminder.

Other safety features include a Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Hill Start Assist Control. Each GR Corolla also comes with a one year trial subscription of Toyota Safety Connect, which provides automatic collision notification, emergency assistance, roadside assistance, and a stolen vehicle location service.

Pricing will be announced in the coming months.
