General Motors reveal new steering wheel concept design for the future

Basic question, how are you supposed to hold this thing and drive and accidentally not touch any of the array of controls. Even F1 and Boeing/Airbus yokes have some real-estate to hold with your hand.

Looks like someone from the smartphone department designing bezel-less devices has been brought into design this contraption.

Well we have had far scarier ideas that were floated around in the past.

Why cant people just stick with things that just work. Before coming up with "innovative ideas", they should first tell what is wrong with the current steering wheel. Then I will rather try to accept their radical new design.

Stupid Stupid Stupid!!!

Could have spent their time trying to fix the Indian market than make stupid steering wheels.

Actually, moving towards a joystick, considering the future is EVs seems like a logical move. Replace Steering, Accelerator, (Regenerative) Brake and Drive Mode (Drive/Neutral/Reverse) Selector with one simple intuitive control interfacing with the electric motor that does it all? I'm all for it!

These thousand useless and distracting visual indicators on the other hands is just technology for the sake of "see we can do this too", and not really helpful for every regular driver.

But a joystick is very sensitive when compared to a steering wheel and not many will get a hang of it as many would have never played a video game with a joystick in their life

This steering could be used to evaluate the skills of trainee drivers by benchmarking them against inputs/parameters used by autonomous cars on same test track.
