2024 Toyota Land Cruiser's combined MPG may be equal to that of many subcompact CUVs.

As such, it's dubbed Land Cruiser 250 at home in Japan and Land Cruiser Prado in places like Australia or parts of Europe. Meanwhile, returning after a three-year hiatus after the departure of the 200-series Land Cruiser, the nameplate is simply dubbed 2024 Land Cruiser in North America. There, it receives one of the best possible powertrains among its peers. For example, Japan has a meager 161-hp 2.7-liter gasoline mill seconded by a mighty 2.8-liter turbo diesel with 201 horsepower. The latter is also offered in Australia and Europe – including in mild hybrid form starting in 2025.

However, overseas – in the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and other markets – the top choice is a T24A-FTS 2.4-liter turbo gasoline option with 276 horsepower hooked to an eight-speed 'Direct Shift' automatic transmission. Well, the same engine is available in China and North America, but there is helped by an electric motor to form the 326-hp i-Force Max assembly, just like in the 2024 N400 Tacoma mid-size pickup truck.

And, as it turns out, it's not just the most powerful of the bunch but could also be the most efficient – bar the potentially better mpg figures of the 2.8-liter diesel MHEV assembly. More precisely, the official Toyota portal in the United States reveals the "new powertrain combines hybrid tech with the power of a turbo 4-cylinder engine. This hybrid engine generates an electrifying 465 lb-ft (630 Nm) of torque and a manufacturer-estimated 27 combined mpg rating."

That's absolutely impressive for a vehicle almost five meters (193.9 inches/4,925 mm) long and about the same overall size as the reinvented sixth-gen 4-Door Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler (JL)! Not only that, but it beats them soundly – according to the EPA's comparison portal. For example, the latter has a rating of 22 mpg for the 2.0L, and the 2023 Ford Bronco 4WD with the 2.3-liter 4-cylinder turbo has a combined rating of 20 mpg.

In US Landcruiser (Prado) is available only as a 5-seater. It’s because in US market its only gets the 2.4Turbo with Hybrid as the engine option and its battery sits below where the third row is supposed to be. This battery pack doesn’t fit properly there, and it creates a 2-inch bump over the floor and third row seat doesn’t fits. Even with second row folded, it’s not a flat surface to sleep inside in case of overlanding.

This is the reason even being same platform, the Gx550 is a 7/6-Seater (Gx550 is a non-hybrid twin turbo V6 only in USA as of now) whereas Landcruiser is only a 5-seater

The new Land Cruiser has gone on sale across Europe with a special launch edition that. without knowing their price, they are taking them out of Toyota's hands. The new delivery of the all-terrain vehicle has broken all expectations, at least in Germany, where the assigned quota has disappeared in a matter of minutes after being announced.

The thousand units available have sold out in record time, just 30 minutes after they were officially put on sale and the order books opened.

2025 Toyota Prado 250 Series three-door: SWB leak or fake.

This is not the anticipated 'FJ Cruiser ' coming soon, but a model that will sit above the FJ Cruiser.

Though its authenticity cannot be confirmed at this stage, the Prado 'shorty' image looks as if it may have been taken from internal technical documents from Toyota, shown alongside the last three-door model built in 2023 – and posted to multiple accounts on Instagram.

Stamped on the image is 'JP/US/EU Prototype', suggesting a Prado shorty would be destined for the Japanese, North American, and European markets – though it's probable such a vehicle would be made available in the Middle East in the future, given the popularity of LandCruiser models in those markets.

Also visible on the image is the model code 'TJA250S3DA-GNZRZVFJ', suggesting it is a Land Cruiser Prado 250 Series, fitted with a 2.4-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder found on overseas five-door variants – and available with petrol-electric hybrid technology.

Fake one. This image has been doing the rounds in Arab auto pages before the Prado was even launched. The image itself is hastily made with that rear wheel arch eating into the front door and the front door itself having an unlikely kink.

Love 3 doors SUVs, but the sales is not there. Whichever market has preference for 3 door SUVs (GCC, Japan, some Latin markets) have already been given the LC70 3 door, which Toyota has made compliant with latest regulations and gave an automatic transmission. Why cannibalise those easy sales by developing an all new 3 door Prado. Have to see if Toyota launches a 3 door version of the upcoming FJ cruiser/ mini Landcruiser/ mini Fortuner, but that is highly unlikely.

For the European, Japanese, Middle Eastern and Australian markets, the new Land Cruiser Prado comes with the same 2.8-litre diesel engine that powers the Fortuner SUV in India. This engine, mated to an 8-speed automatic, will get a 48V MHEV mild-hybrid powertrain by 2025. Toyota recently announced that it is testing an MHEV-equipped Hilux mated to the same 2.8-litre diesel engine.

In some markets, such as North America and the Middle East, the SUV comes with a 2.4-litre petrol engine with a hybrid powertrain – this is the same engine that powers multiple Toyota and Lexus models globally.
