Re: 2021 Honda Accord 2.0T does 0 - 96 in 5.4 seconds

The earlier 2.4 litres naturally aspirated engine that Indian spec Accord used to come in could do 0-100 kmph in a little over 9 seconds, the v6 3.5 litres engine available internationally was still faster and comparable to the new numbers.

I doubt if a 1.5 litre turbo would make it sell in India, so the 2.0 litres turbo petrol seems to be the way to go.

Wonder how the pricing will be made but surely the BMW 330i would be up for serious competition.

Having seen some drag races on YouTube, the performance of the Accord surely seems impressive.
Here's a video I found on YouTube:

Re: 2021 Honda Accord 2.0T does 0 - 96 in 5.4 seconds

Hahaha! Man, a Ferrari Testarossa used to do 0 - 100 in 5.8 seconds, and here you have a mainstream, everyday 4-door family sedan that can seat 5 + carry holiday luggage + serve reliably for 300,000 km + meet currently strict emission norms going faster

Cars today are becoming seriously fast. Still, the true "democratization of performance" will come from electric cars. Only last week, Ford unveiled an electric pickup truck that can do 0 - 96 in 4.x seconds (Ford to make all-electric F150) . To put things in perspective, that is an everyday pickup truck that will be used by plumbers & carpenters which is quicker than a Ferrari 360!

Just as you can buy a computer with 16 GB RAM & a lightning fast SSD for <50,000 bucks, you will one day be able to get a 6-second 0 - 100 electric car under 10 lakhs. Your grandmother will out-accelerate your current Octavia vRS or 530d in her zero-emission mass market EV.

The Accord 2.0T is one of the most underrated vehicles in markets abroad today.
Happened to experience one some time ago. Loved the interiors on it. Hoping to drive it soon.

Re: 2021 Honda Accord 2.0T does 0 - 96 in 5.4 seconds

Quality has improved a lot in mainstream cars. The problem is Accord or Camry we get or used to get in India were actually not Honda / Toyota. Bear with me for my explanation. I might get some beatings here but still.

Accord and Camry in US are every other Joe's car and they never compare with BMW 3 series or Audi A4. But in India it used to be priced similar to Germans and hence comparison.

I also see that the last generation Camry was totally different from what we get in US. The quality of Indian Camry could not be compared with Toyota there but you can say that Indian Camry was a rebadged Lexus.

Of course the cars from mainstream are now faster but even in States your speed limit is still stuck to 80mph depending on which state you are or 70 mph. No matter your acceleration is quick enough but you can never redline the cars (legally).

I am not saying that old cars were better but at least you could push it to its extremes and feel the thrill while you are still under legal driving limit.

Just FYI, the Camry generations which came to India were always imported from Japan. Toyota makes the highest quality of spec for US and Japan market. The Asian version of the Camry was never imported.

The 3 generations of Accord always came from Thailand and were assembled here with very negligible local content.

The Asian version of both these cars are a notch below the Japan and US versions and suited more to Asian tastes in features, use of chrome, tuned for efficiency, bad roads etc

However both these cars were very well built and have top notch quality. Just see the number of cars still running around and how reliable they are. For what they are meant for, they do a fantastic job of it.

Such a good looking car and good to see the numbers for 2.0 Turbo petrol.

However, when they release this in India, they will launch it with 1.5 NA petrol engine. Or even better, 1.5 NA petrol mated to CVT gearbox.

Looking at Honda India’s strategy there is no hope these will make it to India anytime. And Indian customers do not have any alternative to Europeans when it comes to performance.

Looks like Honda’s F1 success with Redbull is certainly transitioning into their production cars. This engine in a Civic would actually be a super combo.

Re: 2021 Honda Accord 2.0T does 0 - 96 in 5.4 seconds

This car shares the Honda DNA and it’s engine with the Honda Civic Type R (which runs in a different state of tune producing 306HP), so no surprises. The equivalent Camry (with the NA 3.5 V6 + direct injection) makes about 50 HP more, but is about 0.4 seconds slower to 0-60mph.

Just shows that “There is no replacement to displacement” is becoming irrelevant in a some contexts. (Smaller turbo engine + lesser power for the accord in this case)

The king of mass-market Family Sedans remains the discontinued Ford Taurus SHO which produced 365HP with it’s 3.5L V6 EcoBoost.

The last Ford Taurus built in the United States rolled off of the assembly line at the Ford Chicago plant on March 1, 2019.

Hyundai is also entering the arena with its most powerful and exciting iteration of the Sonata in the form of the N-line. 290hp and a dual clutch transmission takes it to 60mph in 5.0 secs flat. I wonder if we will see a return of the Sonata badge here in India anytime soon.

So yeah, it will be a battle of the Asians in this category at least in the US.

Re: 2021 Honda Accord 2.0T does 0 - 96 in 5.4 seconds

When I was planning to buy sporty handling car for daily usage, I got almost convinced to buy Honda Accord 2.0T Touring. It was wonderful car with good performance, best handling and super slick gear shifters.

If it was not for AWD Subaru WRX, which I owned for past 2 years, I would have happily bought Accord. in TD, I found it to be bulky specially length of the car.

My thought: In USA, its considered as family car thats why many enthusiasts end up buying type-R for exclusivity and no offense Type-R is unnecessarily unique with its hard handed sporty design.

Love the way you've put it across!

That said, it's indeed fascinating to watch modern cars get faster and faster. Especially since I come from a time where the 1.8 ISZ was the most powerful car which was trumped by the 1.6 Palio.

While we are leaping forward on engine tech, I'm not really seeing that kind of a leap in comfort. (May be technology wise, yes) but, pure pothole isolation and cornering comfort, I dont think much has changed.. May be that's food for another thread. Car Tech - Which has improved a lot.
