2021 Volkswagen Polo teased; global unveil on April 22

Volkswagen has released a teaser of the upcoming 2021 Polo hatchback. The updated 2021 Volkswagen Polo will have its virtual world premiere on April 22, 2021.

The teaser image of the 2021 Volkswagen Polo reveals the new LED headlamp design. The image also reveals a LED light strip which extends on to the sleek new front grille, which has the 'VW' logo at its centre.

Apart from the headlamps, Volkswagen is also said to offer a host of comprehensive cosmetic and features update, both inside and out.

Volkswagen is, however, extremely tight-lipped about the new Polo hatchback, with all details expected to be revealed during the world premiere.

So this is the one we will be getting right? Skipping the current generation.

Re: 2021 Volkswagen Polo teased; global unveil on April 22

VW in India is constantly trying to win over the MSIL customer. And losing it's charm while doing so. They have also promised to cut costs this year to make for easier ownership, we all know that goes.

PRAYING hard for India to get this. How long are we going to milk the existing polo, but that would conflict with it's new "Locking horns with MSIL" strategy. This new Polo will definitely be expensive. Maybe entering the 13L OTR i20 category.

But we all know it will be technically and dynamically far superior to anything else in the segment and one above.

Hopefully we don't get the Second gen polo. Fingers crossed to skip to this 3rd gen directly.

This is just a face-lift of the Current Generation MK6 Polo.

Polo for India is just a speculation, as the next Gen Polo could be an all EV affair.( I.D 2)

This is it.

Revealing the UPDATED 2022 Polo through leaked images, a day before its official launch:

Predominant changes to the front and rear. This includes new LED lights, a dodgy mask and a new front bumper, as well as larger rear lights and a changed rear bumper.
In addition, there will be a steering wheel design, new colors and modified interiors (improved infotainment system, optional digital dashboard, better quality materials and richer equipment).

I have my doubts on the new Polo ever coming to India. All the MNC carmakers have realised that there is no point trying to fight Maruti + Hyundai + Tata in the small car segment. Hatchbacks require a lot of money to develop, the margins are too slim and you need a minimum of 5000 units / month to make it worthwhile. See how Kia has avoided hatchbacks & compact sedans by bringing in the Seltos, Carnival & Sonet. In the works is a Kia MPV, but no hatchback.

Do not really agree to the first statement. VW definitely wants to maximize sales and revenue like any other brand or business. However, they aren't really trying to win a MSIL Customer. A Maruti loyalist would never ever look at VW because of the perception of higher cost of maintainance. VW is trying to localise their parts to bring the cost down. It is concentrating on a smaller segment who are fond of their cars and invariably expand their segment with SUVs which aren't the forte of MSIL.

Indeed, had they remained VW, and what VW stand for, they would have been more successful most probably.

"Locking horns with MSIL" strategy.
Don't know why they want to, there is very less, nearly nil cross shopping between Maruti and VW. A VW customer can still try Maruti, but a Maruti customer won't even look at VW dealership - the maintenance stories and poor resale ghost sits right at the entrance.

People do pay if they feel that the product is worth it. Maruti may not sell a 10 lac+ costing hatchback, Hyundai may sell one, they are selling in fact. VW hatch will have a higher acceptance. Let's not forget that GT TSi was the costliest and first hatchback to breach the 10 lac and even 11 lac barrier - but people bought it.

I am still unsure if they will even bring it to our shores in 2021. And if not in 2021, then we are never getting it, probably then only electric one will come to us.

The name 'Tata' int he list itself is a factor that is motivating enough. They were nowhere to be seen 4 years back, but now they are claiming round 14-15k units per month in the hatch segment.

A good product, if priced right - does sell! We Indians have accepted even the unknown brands and welcomed them with long waiting periods too, the product needs to be worth it; buyer is there in the market.

There is one more aspect, brand visibility. Even if the margins are slim, but if there are a lot of them on the roads - it builds the brand trust, and trust is important to sell the products higher up too (especially when Chevy has left and rumors keep on floating about other brands also exiting). High volume products do provide slim profits, but provide a lot of brand visibility too - and that counts.

As per JD Power survey of 2020, VW has around 41.6% loyalty rate around the world, and Toyota commands over 60%. Now if they are selling even 4000 copies of the new Polo per month, and they do it for 25 months, they stand to have a probability of having 41,600 people who may come back to their dealerships for their products from next segments, and this is along with the new customers coming in daily.

I think this design is horrible! Taken inspiration from the Hyundai design language, which is absolutely.....well it just doesnt age well with time.

VW, please keep the current gen design with a lil better packaging in the rear seat!

The timeless design we have currently is absolutely stunning.

No plans for a hatchback in their current strategy.

New products and launches will be beyond 2023 and that too they will be looking at SUV's and CUV's( like cars rivaling Vitara Brezza and probably a Crossover like NIVUS. )

The next generation of Polo would be an I.D 2 (EV) in a SUV-ish stance.

All You want to know about the 2022 Polo:

Quote:
-The facelift should be available at dealerships in September 2021 , the price will only increase slightly. The Polo will continue to cost less than 16,000 euros

-Volkswagen is generous and will in future be giving the small car the basic LED headlights and new daytime running lights. Matrix LED lights and a continuous strip of lights on the front are optionally available.

- The new, two-part tail lights always come to the customer with LED technology

- The rear lights have the now typical flip-flop light graphics, in which part of the rear light is transformed into the brake light when braking.

- Digital cockpit in the VW Polo will always be standard in future

-The analog round instruments disappear and are consistently exchanged for a digital cockpit (8 inch base, 10 inch optional).

- the steering wheel will have buttons in every equipment variant and comes from the entry-level

- For infotainment, the 9.2-inch touchscreen from the Arteon and Tiguan can be added

- The new Polo starts in September

- In addition to the basic equipment, there are the "Life", "Style" and "R-Line" lines.

Variants:

Polo: the basic model ● LED headlights ● LED taillights ● Multifunction steering wheel ● Lane Assist ● Center airbag ● 8-inch digital cockpit ● 6.5-inch "Composition Media" with Bluetooth ● heated and electrically adjustable exterior mirrors
Life: the middle equipment In addition to the basic "Polo"
● 15 inch alloy wheels
● App-Connect (Apple Carplay and Android Auto)
● Additional USB-C interface in the rear
● Leather steering wheel and gear knob
Style: the dignified Topausstattung
● Matrix LED headlights "IQ.Light"
● LED fog lights
● Parking sensors front and rear
● 10.25-inch digital cockpit
● ambient lighting
● 8-inch infotainment "Ready2Discover"
● App Connect Wireless

R -Line: The sporty top equipment
Like "Style", only with its own aprons
● 16-inch rims
● "R-Line" -specific seat covers

Volkswagen has also given the Polo new assistants and other safety features . This includes the standard center airbag : it is located in the driver's seat and inflates between the two front seats in the event of an accident. An emergency braking assistant is already included in the basic Polo. In the future, the cruise control together with the lane assistant will result in the optional "Travel Assist" . The system can be armed at the push of a button on the steering wheel and helps the Polo to drive semi-autonomously to level 2 . The driver has to keep his hands on the steering wheel, but the Polo then drives largely by itself.
Quote:
Connectivity: 9.2-inch display for the VW Polo
Basically, two different infotainment versions are used in the Polo. While the entry- level versions of infotainment still have to get by with the old MIB2 (modular infotainment kit), VW uses the MIB3, which has meanwhile become more appropriate, for the higher versions . It also allows functions such as Apple Carplay and Android Auto wirelessly , making connecting the phone more convenient. The top system "Discover Pro Media" will be equipped with a larger touchscreen in the course of the model update.
ENGINES:

Engines: No more diesel in the VW Polo, instead a natural gas variant

When it comes to engines, VW is reducing the offer a little. There will no longer be a Polo with a diesel engine , the 1.5-liter gasoline engine with 150 hp will also be out of the range. The 1.0 MPI naturally aspirated engine with 80 hp continues to be the entry point, followed by the 1.0 TSI models with 95 and 110 hp. There it remains with manual five - speed transmissions; if you want more gears, you have to use the optional seven-speed DSG for the turbo engines. Or to the natural gas drive: the 1.0 TGI engine remains in the range, delivers 90 hp as before and transfers its power to the wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.

The top model remains the Polo GTI with 207 hp. The engines known so far at a glance

● VW Polo 1.0 MPI: power: 80 hp; Torque 93 Nm; Transmission: 5-speed manual gearbox
● VW Polo 1.0 TSI: Power: 95 PS; Torque: 175 Nm; Transmission: 5-speed manual gearbox, optional 7-speed DSG
● VW Polo 1.0 TSI: Output: 110 PS; Torque: 200 Nm; Transmission: 7-speed DSG
● VW Polo 1.0 TGI: Output: 90 PS; Torque: 160 Nm; Transmission: 6-speed manual transmission

"While I like the understated design, I'm well aware that some of you may differ. The Auto expo thread (link) had mixed opinions on the looks, and a few reviewers at the test event called the Polo “boring”."
A line from 2010 review of POLO by GTO.

For me that boring design is the best hatchback design in <10 L space. Classic, understated, but best! Will have to see how this one looks in person in case it gets launched in India.
