2021 Skoda Octavia Sportline revealed

Skoda Auto has unveiled the new Octavia Sportline variant. The new (2021) Skoda Octavia Sportline will be positioned between the ‘Style’ and the range-topping ‘RS’ model in its lineup.

The new variant of the Octavia will feature a number of design elements which are common among ‘Sportline’ variants of all Skoda models. These include blacked-out treatment to the front grille, the 17-inch alloys and the ‘SKODA’ badging on the tailgate.

Skoda will also be offering the Octavia Sportline variant with a choice of 18 or 19-inch alloys, which can also be opted in black. Other exterior highlights also include the LED lighting all around and blacked-out ORVMs.

Inside as well, the new Skoda Octavia Sportline will feature Piano black decorative strips. The new variant will also come with sport seats with integrated headrests, wrapped in ThermoFlux upholstery. Most of the features on the new variant are said to have been carried forward from the ‘Style’ trim.

Skoda will be offering the new Octavia Sportline with a range of engine options. These include petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid and CNG powertrains. Skoda will also be offering a choice of front-wheel and all-wheel drive systems. Also, the Octavia Sportline will come with both manual and automatic transmission units, depending on the powertrain.

Starting with the petrol trims, Skoda is offering two options: a 1.5-litre TSI producing 148 BHP and a 2.0-litre TSI churning out 189 BHP. The smaller 1.5-litre unit also comes with the optional mild-hybrid technology. Both engines though are mated to a standard seven-speed DSG automatic transmission.

The Skoda Octavia Sportline is offered with a single diesel engine option, with three state-of-tunes. This comes in the form of a 2.0-litre TDI producing either 114 BHP, 148 BHP or 198 BHP. All three tunes come mated to the same DSG automatic gearbox.

The Skoda Octavia iV Sportline is the model’s plug-in hybrid trim producing a total of 202 BHP. Finally, the CNG trim of the Octavia is said to churn out 128 BHP.

If Skoda is selling the diesel engine in international markets, why can't they launch it in India? I'm assuming this international diesel engine is Euro-VI compliant.

Zac Hollis had actually tweeted about this in reply to a similar question from a Twitter user. Apparently, with the new regulations regarding diesel engines coming in 2023, it will lead to higher costs for the buyers of cars with diesel engines... which would understandably, not be great for business.

Because of this, they are not planning for diesel engines for the long term in India at the moment.

I understand that it will not be great for business.
But 2023 is still 2 years away. 2 years is not a small time. They could have discontinued the diesel after the new laws introduced in 2023.

I believe it was just a silly excuse from Skoda to cover up their improper strategy.

Re: 2021 Skoda Octavia Sportline revealed

Read the tweet of Zac on Diesel engines.

I find this assessment of diesel engines having no future in India quite strange and somewhat disconnected from ground reality. We can still agree on reducing relevance of diesel engines for small cars, hatchbacks and sedans south of 20L, but beyond 20L diesel engines will continue to go strong in foreseeable future. Even <20L Creta sells more than 50% in diesel configuration

2.0 TDI @ 190 HP tune from VW/Skoda will a have strong demand in their SUVs like Tiguan, Kodiaq and to some extent in Superb and Octavia as well.

While their 2.0 TSI engines is also superb and refined, I would say, offer both and let customers choose what they want. Cars like Kodiaq and Tiguan anyways come with sizeable premiums in their respective segments. how much more will a diesel engine cost will add to it?

Somebody please tell Toyota about this. They only have diesel engines in the Crysta!

On a more serious note, the more I read about Skoda / VW plans, the more certain it is that they aren't going to be around for long in India. Zac has obviously not been able to get his internal approvals and is desperately coming up with lame excuses.

India 2.0 instead of being a revival plan for the VW Group, has morphed into a company-closure-prolonging-exercise and, more importantly, a game by the management to try and extend their tenure with some poppycock plans.

Nothing done in India 2.0 will revive the VW Group. Once the budget allocated for this exercise of 1 million Euro is over, VW will pack their bags and leave.

A VW line up without diesel is like living in a centrally airconditioned house in the desert. Without power.

Quite wrong. Toyota has their 2.7 NA Petrol in both the Innova and Fortuner. The fact that they're not popular options is a different thing
